Hi all,

A friend's pc was damaged by lightning/power surge and he is getting R4900 from the insurance company to replace the hardware.

He is looking at getting the following:

Case and PSU
MB
CPU
RAM
HD
DVD-Rom
GFX card

The old machine was a P4 S478 so basically none of the old hardware is going to be used on the new rig.

He is going to be doing a bit of video editing and also game on the machine using a 19" LCD.

Any help and suggestions appreciated thanks.

He doesn't want to add anything out of his own pocket? He's very lucky to be getting that much for a p4...maybe i'll build a p4 and burn it out to collect insurance lol :p

My P4 3.0ghz went for R1200.00 :(

E5300
Gigabyte G31/41
HD 4850
4gb ram
500gb hdd
dvdrw
Gigabyte chassis with 550w

Probably something like that.

did you send him a list of your Hi-Fi Corporation "PC Specials" ?

ha ha ha... nah? Lucky I didn't buy anything from HI FI Corruption. After that stunt they pulled I won't even buy a power cable from them!
:D

thanks for the replies and suggestions everyone. I am seeing the guy again tomorrow at work. Will let him know.

how bout this from PCInt:

Power Pro IV
Intel Core2 Duo 2.8Ghz E7400(3MB) CPU
4GB DDR2 RAM
320GB SATA II -7200RPM HDD
Foxconn Professional Chassis- TSA 156
DVD Writer +/_ ( 22x) DL (8.5GB)
Onboard sound w/ speakers
19" Samsung Wide LCD Monitor
Optical Mouse + Keyboard
No OS Included

R 4673 INC. VAT

and then let him save a few 100 bucks for something like this:

ATI Radeon HD4830
1GB GDDR3 HDMI/DVI/TVO (ROHS) PCIE
R 999 excl. R 1,138 incl.

if he can't add a few extra bucks then get this :D
HD 3450 256MB DDR2 PCI-E VGA
R 289 excl. R 329 incl.

not a huge diff between e5xxx and e7xxx. Also, he said that he has a monitor.

if he already has a monitor he can maybe get a 4850...

i'm just too lazy, but wanted to try and help since nobody has really posted suggestions for him....

Thanks for the suggestions. :-) I will let him know. Looks like he can get a fairly decent machine for the money.
