Telkom’s new ADSL account details

I think we all saw that coming.

So what's the difference?

So we were all right - hardcapping now means 3GB accounts now effectively get 500MB extra, on average, after "so-called" soft-capping is abolished.

You guys are so blatantly pathetic that the whole community is already reading you like a bad horror novel.

Well at least Telkom still retains the title of the no.1 (_*_) of the SA telecommunications industry.

Lets hope ICASA don't approve....
Maybe they can lift the local to to x10 the Intl. cap and Softcap.
Just shows, how desperate telkom are in making an Excellent profit.. :(

Sheesh! I cannot believe it.... From bad to worse... It sounded good, but this is pathetic!
 
They still seem better than what any other wisp has to offer me in my area becuase line rental wins hands down. I would jump ship when a new adsl or other fixed line op comes in play. Telkom, I have never used them as a ISP and never will. The fact that they are trying to con people, soft cap is now just called hard cap as they cap you where they would have soft capped us or for even less.
 
So why not increase the local bandwidth as well?
Paying more - you should get more.
The increases and hard capping just goes about covering what was happening before.

Once again - a show of non-commitment to the customer from Telkom.

+1. Exactly, and they do this as SEACOM is about to go operational. Idiotic, and they'll only look more ridiculous when the competition brings down the prices and they have to follow, just months after making this change...

Leaving aside the issue of how big the cap is, isn't it preferable to have capping at a definitive threshold rather than a variable one out of anyone's control?
 
although it sounds like good news it also does not.
 
2,3GB users didn't score anything/get jack out of this....for 3 GB - relaxed capping policy had been at 6GB+ at one stage...now it has been between 4.5 to 4.8

200-500MB...:mad:
 
What on earth.... who writes this hogwash? I think you should seriously reconsider "Staff writers" position.

The subject talks about hard caps being back but there is not a single line in the article about hard caps. Thanks for wasting my time reading that article which contained only information that I already knew.

BTW Previously all of our 3GB Telkom accounts were capped at 150% usage aka 4.5GB. Now they are capped at 5GB which is only a 500MB increase and not a 2GB increase. Don't come and tell me that I was only paying for 3GB and I was lucky to get 4.5GB. I can get a 3GB account for R139, why would I be paying R229 at Telkom for the same bandwidth allocation? The only reason I have Telkom accounts was because the 4.5GB make it relatively more affordable.

We have 4 Telkom internet accounts. They haven't been variable for close to a year now if not longer. They always cap at 4.5GB, even the percentage indicator shows 100% as 4.5GB.

I also got capped at exactly 4.5 gigs each month. So we get another 500 megs and all the journalists are giving Telkom good press for so kindly giving us an "extra" 2 gigs a month...
 
Ohh, I love it. They shot themselves in the foot now.

In the past other ISPs offered 2 gig accounts at the same price as telscum. But everyone knew you get a bit more out of a telscum 2gig account, so they went for the telscum ISP.

Now other ISPs will need to price their 3gig accounts at the same price as telscum, so more people will move away.

I love it. :D
