The retail price of petrol will increase by between 37 cents and 40 cents a litre - depending on the grade - on Wednesday July 1, the Department of Minerals and Energy announced on Friday.
This follows a 15 cents per litre increase last month and a three cent decrease the month before. 93 octane petrol is being decreased by 37 cents a litre and 95 octane by 40 cents a litre.
Diesel prices will also increase, with 0.05% sulphur and 0.005% sulphur both increasing by 40 cents per litre. Wholesale paraffin increases by 46 cents and illuminating paraffin by 62 cents per litre.
Petrol in Gauteng will now cost 790 cents a litre from 750 cents before, and it is now 767 cents at the coast from 727 cents before. During the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased.
The average rand/US dollar exchange rate strengthened when compared to the previous period. The average rand/US dollar exchange rate for the period 29 May 2009 to 25 June 2009 was 8.1093 compared with 8.4371 during the previous period.
