On the minds of the ANC must be another question of what Cosatu and the SACP could possibly do if the ANC shows them the door. Strike? They have already overplayed that card. Mass action? It is unlikely that standing on their own feet Cosatu and the SACP could get such a campaign together without resorting to their usual tactics of violence and intimidation. That is the only concern that the ANC need have in deciding on the fate of its poorer relatives in these two movements. Standing in an election on their own, Cosatu and the SACP would find it tough to beat Helen Zille's DA and would probably follow the example, most recently of COPE, that has been the fate of all movements that have ever stood up against the ANC. It may be wise for the ANC to delay any decision until after the 2010 World Cup to mitigate against the risks that Cosatu and the SACP may disrupt preparations for this event. Thereafter the reasons for dumping Cosatu and the SACP begin to outweigh the reasons for retaining them in the alliance.

Perhaps, and maybe, i assume a lot of things after the world cup... which I hope they are wrong but one thing is there is going to be a lot of dancing and toy-toying

My answer for now is no, however once the usefulness of COSATU and the SACP have served their purpose the ANC will go it alone, however watch out for SACP/COSATU stalwarts defecting to the ANC. The cow has not been milked fully yet...

Well personally i am waiting for the great shake-up and fireworks Phosa has been telling the whites in nelspruit will hapeen under zuma. And what has happened ? Nothing, zip ,nada. AA will continue, whites will be driven out of hte country til hte last one is gone.

The whites pay actually 90% of all income tax, sure there are blacks but this is AA apponted blacks. Why the ANC is intent on destroying the service based economy (70% ) I don't know. Eskoms mess is a direct rresult of replacing the whites there, our rivers are getting to the stage of pollution that it won't be able to be used by eskom.

But wth this article things make a little more sense , Cosato will hold us hostage till next year, we can't afford a blow-up now , Cosato has the power to destroy the world cup and they will if Zuma tries any tricks now. SA simply can't continue the way we are heading, the ANC could even loose the next election and they know it. They need to get water and electricity to the poor ..... or those same poor will not vote anc in the next election.

***! Those poor will continue to vote for the ANC regardless...No matter what the colour of the skin of the tax payers, the ruling body will continue to rape the lot of you until kingdom come. S.A. needs a westernised political party to become the leaders of the country, I couldn't give two mary mother ****er hoots what colour their skin is. If S.A. is to survive in this world they need to be western and not African... That is the ONLY answer to the ills of S.A.

I agree - why do tax payers have so little say? Sure the poorest contribute 14% VAT but I easily contibute 50% which is a conservative number.

RSA could have had a 5th more money had the best qualified whites stayed.
Imagine a 20% increase in GDP if the whites returned, its a 20% increase in the South African's spending power.

Lets face it - South Africa is what it is today because the whites stayed here longer than they did in Kenya and other similar countries. The most ****EDUP countries in Africa was never settled by the West. If they were settled it fell in to ruin once they left. I believe it is because of a brain drain - sure Africans could have saved the day if they respected education and had higher moral values but at the time the whites left the remaining population which was not ready yet to take control because they lack maturity.

South Africa is not ready for its inexperienced corrupt government which instills in every pupil the attitude of "free for nothing". In a few generations there will be little left and the west will continue advancing at a much faster pace. I don't see how Africa can ever catch up.

If the majority who doesn't pay tax are allowed to choose the leaders, tax payers will become fewer and fewer.

I don't think they will, this election they voted for Zuma not the ANC. Mbeki wanted to get rid of Zuman not because of corruption, but because there was a fallout between the two a few years ago, where zuman apparantly told mbeki that if he takes over his policies will be reversed.

Maroga and his clowns sold eskoms coal supply in 2003 or 6 about so that their bonuses can be boosted. The anc appointed just one white to a serior position.

No, the poor have made it clear, this is the last chance they will give the anc, deliver or you are out the next election. FAced with a revolt from the poor the anc can't expect the whites to pay social grants, inflate eimployment numbers with aa , enrich the top anc with bee.....something will break..... like Eskom for example.

They won't be voting DA and COPE look as though they're falling apart.
So viva ANC.:(

I have my suspicions about this politicsweb. Their views are skewed to the right:D. So people still believe the world(sa) ends after the wc next yr. Ignorance (and self fulfilling prophesies) is bliss in these parts.

I'm waiting for the doom and gloom prophets to start with their predictions on how SA will "end" after 2010.

I wish they would put their "abilities" to something useful instead of "predicting" absolute drivel the whole time.

I don't think it's doom and gloom I think people are scared and rightly so. You only have to look at the rest of Africa (Who incidentally have never hosted a WC), to see where potentially South Africa's future lies. There's no way the ANC will do anything too controversial before the cash cow of the WC has passed.

After the competition has finished it will be interesting to see how the political landscape changes in S.A. if at all.

Oh nos... not more dooms dayers, I thought we would not get the world cup and Zuma would be raping children in the street already.

You have the world cup which is cool, however will it be an embarrassment? Anecdotal comments from friends and colleagues at work that the pitch on Thursday night was ****, (it did look a little bad) and they have said if that's what's on offer for the world cup then it's going to be a very interesting one.

As for Zuma raping babies? He's given that idea up as babies can't pay taxes and has turned his attention to you the Joe in the street to start raping :D

The pitch was crap on thursday, even I thought it was crap but that's just one stadium and it's not meant for soccer exclusively.

With regard to raping tax payers, maybe he'll outdo the Brits and build a moat to be cleaned regularly with taxpayer money on his private property.

Edit:
Speaking about pitches.. did you notice The oval in the recent T20?
Should be renamed "the square"

No, just the facts. Eskom needs a certain water quality, our rivers are so polluted because the muncipalities are falling apart. IF the water can't be used no power can be generated, SA then will fall apart. The rand is at R8,00, there is something the international investors know we the rest of SA don't know.

Something is going to have to break either the ANC or Cosatu, there is a seething anger amongst the poor because of collapsed service delivery. We are so used to Mbeki and how just let everything go to the wall. FAct is that we can't afford the World cup to blow up in our faces, pull any stunts now and Cosato will make that happen...... so we are stuck..... we will see what happens next year. Zuma has no loyalties or morals, he will do what ever it takes for him to remain in power and that means water, power to the poor.

Lets presume we continue like it is and the service delivery doesn't happen. Anc wins next election with 55% majority, then after that they only get 48%. AT some point in time this whole apartheid thing will blow over and people demand that their basic needs be met.

I disagree with you, because you are thinking like a rational, sensible and educated person. The majority of SA is neither... they don't even read the mainstream media - all they get is state owned radio propoganda.

Add to that the bribes and promises of free everything, and you get the masses voting over and over again, as they have done in the country just north of ours. Hence the huge sense of entitlement we encounter every day in SA.

It would be nice to hope they would come to their senses, but they dont see things like you do. Very sad...

Just one stadium ne? Well we'll see when the World Cup starts, it might not be meant for football exclusively but there are stadiums around the world that are used for a multitude of sports and they manage to get the pitch right regardless. Tell me what other sport does Ellis Park host hmm? Rugby, which is played on a......???
With reference to the raping tax payers bit, correcto :-) However said MP has paid back the money or been sacked, can't remember which (Doesn't make it right though). There's something to be said for transparency within government, something that the S.A. government needs to learn :-)
