I am a customer of yours, and have been since early December.
I accepted, with some reservations, your idea of a '3 gig cap' limit on
my ability to download data off the Internet. I also accepted, with a
certain wariness - your plan to - once this artificial 'cap' has been reached,
to switch my connection to a 64k connection. Although as yet, I've yet to
hear precise information on how this connection will be shared/contended/
set up with regard to other users who have also reached their 'cap limit'.
I assumed, and based on the statements made by your personnel, prior to
purchasing the modem and signing up to your '30 day notice contract' - that
I could effectively use my '3 gig limit' in any way I see fit.
Logically, it would be downright bizarre for a company to not only impose
a '3 gig limit' on internet downloads - but then to further shape and control
traffic - thus limiting exactly HOW that 3 gigs may be used up.
It really is not your business or your concern as to how I choose to use my '3
gig limit' - because I would assume that once I (or others) have reached this
limit of yours, you have software in place to control the connection.
So it is with a growing sense of curiosity, that I have noticed over the past
month or so, the spreading 'throttling' of my ability to use certain aspects of
the Internet as I choose.
I do understand that you are currently in a 'pre-launch' phase - and as your
service is currently 'uncapped' - it is perhaps an attempt to reduce bandwidth
usage prior to you putting your software in place to maintain control of the
individual 'caps'.
However, as a paying customer, I would like your assurance, that once the
service begins, and your '3 gig cap limit' is applied, and individual monitoring of
users bandwidth usage begins, that you will remove all 'throttling' and limiting
software - thus allowing me to use your service (and therefore the 3 gig
allowance) in whatever way I see fit.
Once you are charging full rates, and have officially launched, surely it is both
unreasonable (and illogical), to not only have a 3 gig limit in place - but then
to also to attempt to tell me and others how exactly we can and can't use up
the provided and paid for 3 gigs?
If I should wish to use the 3 gig allowance within a day or two, that is my
right - and thereafter, I can either purchase more bandwidth, or sit on the
'alternative' connection that users who've 'reached their limit' are switched
to, for the remainder of the month.
I would further like your assurance that you are not preparing to
a) continue this odd 'blocking' of aspects of my internet access, once your
service officially launches-
b) artificially slow down everyones connection speeds, in a misguided
attempt to 'stretch out' the very small quantity of 'a 3 gig limit' you have
set in place.
And I (and others, I'm sure) would like clarity on:
c) exactly and precisely the nature of the connection you intend to
switch users to, once they have reached their 'limit' as imposed by you.
d) when you will upgrade your 'help desk' to a 24 hour service, in keeping
with the 24 hour service you are providing.
I would appreciate a prompt, precise and full clarification on each of the
above queries I have raised.
Yours sincerely
