Hi folks

As you know we are currently busy processing the testing results. Your feedback is again needed to ensure that we assign suitable weights to each component of the broadband rating formula.

Can you please assign weights to each of the following components (give a numerical indication of how important it is to you…higher = more important). Please Note: you only have 100 points to play with! The sum of all your weights must therefore add up to 100.

Basic monthly cost:
Cost per extra Gig:

General Service (helpdesk, support, mobility):

I know that this is quite a time consuming exercise, but it will be of great value if as many of you as possible can complete this survey. If you would not like to post your results here you are welcome to mail them to [email protected] (non members welcome!).

Thanks and regards,

RPM

I just know I'm gonna get laughed at, but this is what I think ATM :-)

This is mostly for business, i.e.
  • VoIP: reliability & latency critical here
  • email: reliability critical here
  • browsing: mostly research - important but not time sensitive so can tolerate some downtime, uncapped local very important here, international not critical
  • Own hosting: upload speed important here

Hi RPM

Just a quick comment here...would it not be worthwhile maybe taking the Broadband ratings a step further - i.e. rank services in which is best for:

1.) Overall
2.) Gaming/Online Trading
3.) Residential Browsing and Downloading
4.) Business Use and Reliablity

The reason I say this, is that it is obvious that different kinds of users will weight latency and download speed differently according to their needs.

For example, I'm looking to primarily game with my ADSL, thus:

Basic monthly cost: 25
Cost per extra Gig: 10
Download Speed: 10
Upload Speed: 5
Uptime/Reliability: 15
Latency: 20
Cap size: 10
General Service (helpdesk, support, mobility): 5

I agree with what lewstherin said...

But first we would need to find out all the different usage types - there are probably several more that could be added to the list, in particular I think a Skype and/or Other VoIP usage type would be useful for both home & business users.

Maybe "Intended Usage" should be a separate list, also with percentages. My reasons for low latency is work related (i.e. vpn, ssh) although I wouldn't mind trying out a few local racing games :D
