Are you going to stay on iBurst after the "Soft Launch" period expires?

I am leaning towards 'no' but it could go either way. I just think to determine quality of service in a months time I should just take whatever I'm getting now, and cut it in half since more people on the network means both less bandwith and worse support, add that with the fact that I'll be capped I just don't think its going to be worth it. I might not switch as soon as the launch starts, but when uncapped ADSL is available, bye bye iBurst.

To be honest I hope a good body of people leave the network due to crappy service, it'll be the best thing for iBurst, a little bit of a wake-up call.

I think WBS are gonna get a surprise. I think all the people who milked the no cap and cheap price will probably leave and goto Vodacom 3G / ADSL or something.

A good thread. I will stay because:

Performance for my purposes is very good.
Works well on a home network.
Stable. There has been very little downtime.
Monthly costs are lower than my previous ISDN64+ISP+call charges.
Under normal usage will only ocassionally exceed 3GB/month.
When I want something, I want it fast. D/L speeds are superb.

I'm on the 30day contract, and I will up and leave if:

BS contention gets too high and/or network performance degrades significantly.
Superior/cheaper offerings from other service providers become available.
Cost of bandwidth above 3GB is made too excessive.

What bugs me about the so called "launch" is that WBS seems to be in a mess internally.I can't see this April launch going well,if it ever happens. It could even be delayed. Here we are about 19days to launch and we have no idea about any kind of price/package rumor, usually something leaks out by now as with any company launching anything.....lucky i'm on a rolling contract, those that signed op for 24 months.....ouch!

I will stay for now.

Mostly because this is still the cheapest way to get a 24/7 connection for me.
Don't mention Sentech. Sentech did not work for me at all. And ADSL ( even the new cheapie one ) is still more expensive after adding in ISP, line hire, phone hire, etc.

But if there is ever a provider with total cost of around R400, steady 8kB, 24/7, sub 500ms pings, I will evacuate to the nearest exit.

And I can still remember that rush when I first downloaded a file at 120kB/s...

i can't see myself going to 512 unless its uncapped, but 192?? theres just no way i could ever consider going to 192

Definately staying for now.

Am hoping that the silence from wbs regarding packages, bandwidth prices etc is because they are planning something inovative and not wanting to give too much heads up to the competition.

I think that statement pretty much wraps us wireless internet users in south africa up... eternal optimists

IC, are you leaving iBurst?
Ivy says she will wait & see what happens on the 14th, 15th, 16th .. time when Telkomonopoly tell Ivy whether she is allowed to have ADSL or not :D.

We just started using Iburst at the office a week ago and it works okay. I'm sticking to my ADSL at home though.

i havent read all your posts, but here is my opinion :

currently iburst/shaun has made promises they havent kept. come launch time, if the issues that should have been addressed aren't addressed, I'll be leaving as soon as I find another connection to work from

Well if the Northcliff tower stay at the responds that it is now at the moment with +-60KB/s download, I will stay with iBurst. This is the best I had since the 19th of January. Luckely I am on a Month to month subscription, so I am not in the hotspot.

Thankyou guys at iBurst for sorting out the Northcliff tower.

I think this is my last month on iBurst, there just seems to be a problem every couple days, no one tells me anything and theres always some idiot who decides to play around when i NEED my connection. Although I had good experiences with it at times, I really doubt I will see too many times liek that after they launch. If theres a problem at any given time and you call the support center, no matter what the problem is or where you connect to you will be told some crap about 1) some doohicky and engineers are working on it 2) your MTU settings.

Generally, I think it is better for your sanity not to phone the call centre. I've only phoned 3 times in 3 months, and only got through to them twice. On both occassions I imparted far more knowledge to them than they could impart to me. Total waste of time really.
