120km/h in my car = 120km/h in any car/truck/bakkie

we are arguing about this concept, that if a car and a truck can both travel at 120km/h in the same direction, the car will be faster than the truck due to the fact the the car is lighter... and again due to the fact that the aerodynamics of the car are better than those of the truck. keep in mind that the speed is constant 120km/h...

we both agree that more power will be needed to make sure the truck is at 120km/h and less power will be needed to make sure the car is at 120km/h.

i say that the car will be faster due to the weight for one... he say the will be the same

please help...

Well, the wheels on the truck are larger, so they will be turning slower. Thus, the truck moves slower. Weight has nothing todo with it...

Actually it's quite the opposite - because the wheels have a larger diameter, they need to turn faster than the little wheels to do 120km/hr - therefore we can safely conclude that the truck will travel faster at 120km/hr than the car does at 120km/hr.

This type of thread really makes me mad at our education system...

Nope.

Distance / time will be the same for both. A truck travels 120km and a car travels 120km; they both do it in an hour. Thus they went 120km in an hour or 120km per hour or 120km/h.

The acceleration, power required, forward momentum, etc. may differ but once you're at the same speed you cover the same distance in the same time.
