Hi guys,
I have a few movies, songs, pics on my PC that are all in their own folders... but I would like to be able to use some tool that allows me to click on my media folder and then it takes all the files and brings them to the media folder instead of being in sub-folders in the media folder... is that possible? or is cut/paste the best option?
Thanks

Cant a playlist do that? Scan for all files and present them in a list? Or do a search for all media files, cut and paste? Or try robocopy, it can move files based on a mask.

I think cut and paste is your best option. Just be aware that once you start puting several thousand files into one folder, you can significantly slow down your PC when accessing that folder.

k....
I have about 460GB of movies on my 500GB drive but they all in little folders... if I put them into one folder(called movies) and just pasted them all there would it still slow it down:confused:

I sorted mine into categories, sci-fi, fantasy, action movies, romance, etc. That way I had a bunch in one folder but not more than a hundred in each and ten main categories. I used imdb to search for the names of the movies. In fact, I went ahead and renamed them cos a lot of them had really meaningless names. I share a lot with other people so it helps them when looking through the movies. some of them I kept in folders cos they have sub-titles, cover art and NFO files in the folders as well. And some of the movies have more than one part.

k... suppose That could be a good idea...
I dunno if this is possible but here I go:
Would it be possible to do what you mentioned( genre folders) but then having another folder with shortcuts to all the movies? so I can see every single movie I have if I want or I can go into each genre?

That sounds like it will be a bitch to maintain. There's sure to be some database-ish media index software around to do the job.

Would be an admin nightmare, although you could use something like Dir 2 File (http://support.it-mate.co.uk/?mode=Products&p=dir2file) - you can output your entire folder listing (incl. sub folders) to html, and use that as your shortcut list if needed? I use the html output frequently for sending to my clients - gives them the shortcuts to the server without me having to re-type everything... it also outputs to excel, plain text and ASP.
Example from my CD collection ripped to FLAC - I click on the blue left-link and it opens the file:

There is also DirHTML (http://dirhtml.enware.info/) that I use frequently.

Hang on....
Why do you want them in one folder? for ease of access?
I use a different approach, TVersity. It leaves the actual files in their own folder, but indexes them so I can either look at the files at a folder level, or just the file names.
Of course I use TVersity mainly to share my media over my home network, but maybe its the way for you...
All I can say is: copying 450 gig into one folder will only end in tears.
But. if you really need to do it that way, the easiest would be to search the drive for all the files (eg *.avi), then drag the lot from the search window into the folder you want everything in. Don't say I didn't warn you. TEARS!!!

Well Windows 7 allows you to create "Libraries" which treat all the included folders as if they were one, but unless you manually added each folder it would not help much.
My advice is to still create the category/genre folders.
I strongly advise against putting that many files into one folder, but if you insist, then make sure you disable AVI previewing.

I have a similar problem atm. I have a collection of around 4gb of individual N64 hi-res textures. Now anything that involves file indexing has become a total nightmare. Any suggestions are very welcome.
