'Crooked' cop off for 16 months on full pay

Mpumalanga police commissioner Afrika Khumalo -- alleged in a sworn affidavit by drug baron Glenn Agliotti to have profited from drug trafficking -- has been drawing a salary for 16 months while staying at home on sick leave.

Khumalo told the Mail & Guardian he is still on "incapacity" leave, but would not say what is wrong with him or when he is expected to recover.

"I am recovering. I'm coming back to Mpumalanga," he said, before coughing loudly. "I am the police commissioner of Mpumalanga. Nothing has changed. As soon as I am better, I'm coming back."

Police unit collapses over missing drugs

All but six members of the Nelspruit organised crime unit were sent to new police stations on Friday after they failed to track down Mandrax thieves.

"The acting Commissioner Rex Machabi gave the members an ultimatum of 30 day to arrest the suspects who broke into the store room of the unit and stole drugs to the value of R3.75-million," Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Leonard Hlathi said in a statement.

When management noticed that half of the 30 days lapsed with no progress made on the case, 24 members of the unit were on Friday given transfer letters to new police stations all over the province.

Drug enforcement + Police officer = potential corruption

It happens everywhere, Governments should learn to educate rather than waste money on drug enforcement because drug use has gotten worse and drug cartels are richer, with money comes influence.
 
Our police reminde me of the police force from mobster movies like good fellow and then like...its frikken dodgy
 
I blame the government for not training the police and the SANDF properly. They took too many inexperienced people and slammed them through the system too quickly in order to achieve "equality"

You mouth off when subjects focus on issues in other countries, such as the middle east, and suggest that the debates should evolve around South Africa or Africa because "that's where you live", and then, such as in this thread you mouth off that this corruption happens in many other countries - so what, it does not make it acceptable that our police force, just like the ANC, are corrupt from the very top to the bottom.

Never said it's acceptable but complaining about it won't do much, I'm not against your post, my point is that we should decriminalize drugs to stop the drug related corruption.
 
if lesotho's firing squad invades SA who is going to stop them surelly not the sandf...

I think the issue is CORRUPTION and not 'DRUG CORRUPTION'. Corrupt people and systems which don't prevent or punish corruption adequately are the reason why corruption exists. You don't suggest that we decriminalise cash-in-transit heists, car jackings, robberies, murders, rapes, extortion, etc either?
 
Gee, on the one hand we've got someone who doesn't live here posting plenty plenty articles about the collapse of South Africa and its police system and on the other hand we've got more people bitching and complaining about it but who just accept it at the end of the day. "This is Africa." "What's new?" "Blame apartheid!". Nice.

This is going to solve problems, is it?

Join SAPS to Fight crime?
Join ANC to become the police minister?

Come on, we will be the other "corrupted officer".

The system have the problem, what we can do? Suggestion?
