Payment cards for petrol and diesel

lol, you pay a fee for you garage card.

You need to change bank or the type of account you have. Look around, many of the banks throw in the garage card for free with their current accounts.

The free garage cards providers usually charge you a fee every time you use the garage card. Virgin money charges me R5 every time.

Nope, i dont pay for the transactions on the card either.

Check out FNB's R66 a month account or Nedbanks Everyday account

Yes, I am using a Virgin card now, and I was using a Standard Card before that, and have always paid the extra on every transaction.

Yes it's for real, but i'm not aware that it's been made official. I believe what you see there is the 'proposal' put forth for public comment. Whether it's being accepted and the laws being dropped is another story....

Either way, i see no reason why they would not open things up and accept that proposal. Nowhere in the world do you need special cards to fill up with petrol, only here.

It is one of the special things in this country....

And it drives me dilly since Nedbank can never seem to get it totally right, and they do manual blocks on the card the SECOND its over limit... and i end up having to phone them to get the block removed after I've paid...

Nedbank can never seem to get what right?
You dont pay extra for a garage card or for transactions on the card with them??? Same goes for FNB???

Won't your credit card provider treat buying fuel on the card as cash and therefore charge interest immediately? which is just the same as using a petrol card linked to a credit card.

FNB do a petrol card linked to your cheque account. They charge R3.50 (but is included in your monthly transaction allowance limits if you have that option). There's no fee for the card, but FNB don't seem to advertise the fact you can get a petrol card linked to your cheque account.

Nedbank constantly put a hold on my card cos i go over the limit every few months due to using more fuel than normal... it gets paid off in total on Payday, but they don't have automatic systems to remove the blocks they put on the card... so i end up having to phone them to remove it.... gets bloody frustrating really.
