Laptop repair / LCD advice - Durban

Hi all,

My sisters notebook (Toshiba 15.4") is having LCD issues.
LCD goes blank (can faintly see the desktop in the backround) and when it comes back to life the LCD is a heavy pink colour, which gradually fades back to normal.
I've googled and found that it can be a back light (?), the inverter or the whole LCD.
Sent it to the agents who quoted R6500.00 for a new LCD...hahaha...crazy buggars.

I don't want to buy a new LCD if it's only a R180.00 inverter for example but don't know how to find out what's really at fault.

Any suggestions for home troubleshooting (an external LCD does work fine when plugged in so it's not the MB) and where I can get alternate repair service in Durban?

Sounds like the lamp itself, taking into account that normal fluorescent lights tend to have a purple tinge on both tips once they reach the end of their useful life.

Here in SA seems to be a HUGE lacuna for this sort of job. ( Cost effective fixing of laptops )

[See if you cannot source a used replacement LCD from somewhere -- the agents price is ridiculously laughable ]
