Im using a computer as a ubuntu server. Today i got drive errors and when i opened the pc case the HDD was very warm(not hot). It wont power on when the computer was turned on. But if i shut down the computer and wait awhile then it will work again but only for a short while. What can i do? I realy need the hdd to work coz im trying to build a server.

The hdd is a sata seagate baracuda 160gb.

Not a vert good start to building a server using problematic hardware. You gonna need redundancy not a redundant a hard drive.

Have you tried the hard drive on a different machine? Is the drive still under warranty?

I have replaced it with a samsung 160gb sata. I have not tried samsung before.

Does seagate HDD's have a 3 year warranty?

Sounds like a faulty drive. It happened to me before. At first the drive works up to a certain point, then freezes up. Then later it just stops working. If it's new it should still be under warentee.
