What is the slowest PC you've installed Win7 on?

Would be interesting to see on what kind of systems people have installed win7 and how it performed, so share your experiences!

I'm thinking about installing it on a P3 850MHz with 512MB of memory just for the heck of it :p The windows 7 upgrade adviser doesn't state that it won't run, it just indicated that it'll be a tad slow :)
 
My question would be why? Why would you want to do that? Why would you want to frustrate yourself like that? Why even use antiquated hardware? Why? Why? Why?

We chuck anything onlder than P4 in the trash, just not worth it, unless you wanna run a linux based routing box or something, which you're not going to do with a win7 based machine.
 
I run two instances op win 7 simultaneously on a single core 2.4GHz AMD Athlon 64 3800+ CPU with 2GB ram. Not the fastest responses though.

Also on a laptop with 1.6 GHz and 1GB ram on which it runs fine.

Feel free to buy me a non-antique PC for my proxy needs. I don't enjoy frustrating myself with linux when it comes to things which I'm not 100% clued up on e.g. proxying, routing etc. Windows is an environment which I'm comfortable with and I know the ins and outs.

The reason why I started this thread is to find out how people's experiences with Windows 7 are on old PCs, not your personal opinion about how silly you think it is to make use of windows on older machines for whatever purposes.

Would be interesting to see if win7 is more efficient than XP on some older systems.

What kind of processor is that? Wish my P3 could take 1GB memory but the chipset is limited to 512MB. I remember when I thought it would never reach 512MB...now I have 3 Dimms open and 1 512MB stick in there which somebody gave to me for free :p

Still makes 0 sense, why would you run a proxy/router on win7 when an XP machine will do just fine and provide exactly the same functionality, seeing as you're going to be running 3rd party software in anycase to do your routing/proxying. Your idea of running a product designed in 2008 with 2008+ hardware in mind on a hardware device which was designed pre 2000 doesn't make sense to me, so where is the benefit?

Stability, efficiency, security, compatibility (drivers, software, ipv6 etc) and most importantly because I CAN and I am a curious person. Still has nothing to do with the thread's purpose.
