Hi folks

It is great to see that MyADSL is growing at a steady rate. Yesterday was our busiest day ever (hits: 236 260, page views: 74 560), and we can expect this trend to continue as more people enter the broadband market and become aware of broadband issues. Thanks a bunch for all your participation: the more visitors and activity we have, the more our negotiation power in the broadband arena!

If you have any suggestions about how we can improve MyADSL/MyBroadband please let us know. Thanks as well to Afrihost for their continual sponsorship of all our BW needs (I think they cringe when they see IC or Noone :D)

Regards,

RPM

Great news !

I've pointed quite a few people here and it's pretty much certain that anyone interested in IT in South Africa knows of the sites existence.

I would say that one idea (rather than improvement) would be to have the "The MyADSL guide to South African broadband services" prominently placed on the landing page - maybe with some sort of message along the lines of :-

"What broadband service should you try ? Download our Broadband Ratings to help you make an informed decision"

Also, possibly an HTML version of the document could be put together.

I'd volunteer my services to do that, if your interested ?

Great news! I always recommend people look here first. Amazing what word of mouth can do!

I gratefully accept :D The final draft should be ready by Monday (have to work today :( )

Cool beans - should be fairly easy to get the HTML to look close to the PDF document, using as few graphics as possible - obviously I'll format it so it fits with the site theme and so it's clean code that downloads fast !

Well done on the new numbers!

I have two small (nit-picking) requests:
1. On the myadsl home page, the news articles have a small graphic logo such as Telkom, ITWeb, Sentech etc... but there doesn't seem to be any logical allocation of this logo. Sometimes it relates to the source of the article (e.g. ITWeb) and at other times it relates to the content of the article. So often there is a Telkom logo - and one assumes that the information comes from Telkom, but in fact the article is ABOUT Telkom and is sourced from some other site/publication. These graphics should relate to either the source or the content (I vote for source :)).

2. It would be great if there was a dateline for the articles on the home page. Some of the news items date very quickly, so it would be convenient to be able to see at a glance the date that the article appeared.

Hi Dominic

Hits: A hit is a request for a file (made by a browser). This might include images etc. (A webpage is typically made up of a number of different files, e.g. an HTML file, images, and a stylesheet. When a webpage is viewed, each of these files is requested from the server, and each file requested increases the number of hits.)

Page views: A Web page that has been viewed by one visitor. Request to load a single HTML page (therefore the full page, including images etc.). This is certainly a better indication of true traffic!

Hope this helps.

Regards,

RPM

"hits" is the number you tell to potential advertisers.
"page views" is the number you use to measure yourself.

Should we be worried "mole"?

If not: Welcome to MyBroadband! Nice to meet you!

You know it would be great to have a mole that works for a certain Telkomonopoly company - even if our mole never told us anything we didn't already know, our mole could at least convey our message to Telkomonopoly - IMO stop the overcharging & drop the monthly ADSL Rental charge, then we can start talking about SAT3 & SAFE charges and/or continued ownership...

Anyways, mOle welcome to MyADSL :D - do you happen to have anything to do with relative measurement of molecules?
Many employees from all the companies are here already as registered members! From Friday's article: "In a release from last year regarding Telkom's fight with Hellkom, the company stated that sites such as MyADSL give the company an insight into the minds of its customers and that Telkom always welcomes constructive criticism."

Unfortunately I don’t think Telkom will appreciate it if their employees openly state that they work for Telkom and then either give feedback (although unofficial) or criticize the company. This is quite understandable as I don’t want IC or Antowan to join Telkom and give away our top secret information :D

RPM

They would be crazy not to take into consideration what we have to say. Afterall, it's free marketing research. Its just amusing that they now admit we exist, whereas before, they treated us as if we were insignificant. Oh how the times have changed.

Well done all,its good news to hear we are getting so many hits.
Ive also refered many peeps here.
