This is significantly less than the R2.1m spent on two BMWs by Communications Minister Siphiwe Nyanda and Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga's new BMW 7 series and Range Rover Sport, with a combined price tag of nearly R1.7m.

Communications is a fsk-up ... minister blows 2.1 mil on cars before doing a single thing to sort out the c0ck-up
Education in a shambles ... minister blows 1.7 mil on cars before doing a thing to sort out the c0ck-up

... yet the finance minister, who's in charge of arguably the best run department (and probably the most important one) seems to be the only one not blinded by greed and taking heed of the current economic situation:rolleyes:

Around R 1.2 million. But thats just the base price, not including extras, which could add up, especially the Audi. The Lexus SE models are usually full kitted up.

If he really wanted to make the point he would have bought a cheap car. Unless the OP is suggesting these cars had anything to do with tightening our belts.
 
Why not buy a second hand car/s?

do they have to be new?

I mean, that's 12-20% depreciation written off to the tax payer in one week FFS.

Next time, however, spend your own money on these cars instead of mine.

I propose cutting down these car allowances to "basic 3 Series/C Class/A4/LS" level. If they want more, they make more than enough money to put in the difference.

This is a poor show for those poor families who are going to bed hungry and sick tonight without any help in terms of food or health care.

It won't keep up with the rest of the blue light brigade. On a serious note, Anything between R250k and R450k is good enough.
 
Not to defend the gvt ministers but guys you should see the perks the executives of the mines, banks etc enjoy.
Applying the same logic, they shouldn't be rolling in luxuries whilst the majority of their workers have to live in cramped hostels and squatter camps.

No, they shouldn't. But they aren't politicians playing with PUBLIC MONEY, so you can't apply the same logic.
