Vodacom insist on sending me promotional SMSs and I can't make them stop.

If you're going to suggest registering on DMASA's opt-out register- did that in July last year.
If you're going to suggest calling Vodacom to get them to put me on their own opt-out list- did that in June, September and December last year as well as March this year. The spam stops for 3 months then starts again.
Now for the last 6 weeks I've been on the phone with them almost daily and they have "successfully" unsubscribed me from all marketing 3 times in the last 6 weeks, but they still spam me at least once a week. This morning they spammed me again.

I've twice logged it on hellopeter and gotten a canned response but no real help.
Today I contacted DMASA and will see what they can do.

I am a Vodacom contract subscriber- have been for 13 years. But I won't renew again- I boycott spammers.

Yes, I know I can be a pedantic @$$ at times but there's a system to opt me out and it's not working.

I have been hearing lots of stories from people having similar issues. I have just recently joined VC and if this sh*t starts with me I am going to loose my rag :(

I really wouldn't know what to suggest but they seriously need to be stopped.

If I were in your shoes I'll write a letter to the local newspaper and complain. Let's see how much Vodacom likes that. Or ask the Vodacom rep on myBB to help he seems more than willing.

seriously, the only way to stop it is to move away from vodacom, for various reasons including the spam issue, I am considering doing exactly that also.

I dunno if mtn/cellc spam their customers, but it seems the only way to get rid of vodacom spam.

anyway good luck. and let us know if u find a way

Albert , take my advice (if you want too) , I have been with them all , and currently Vodacom is the best . As I always say "better the devil you know than the one you dont"

Hi VodacomData

Thanks for getting involved

I was getting the gift box stuff from Vodacom23, but that has now stopped. I'm currently being spammed by AdMe which is owned by Vodacom- see bottom of T&C page (www.adme.co.za) and purports to be anti-spam but sends me spam.
In March it was Easter MMS promotions, in December it was Christmas stuff. Before that I don't recall.

It doesn't actually matter what it is and I don't want to be unsubscribed from any specific promotion, because next week there will be a new promotion and the process will need to be repeated.

Here's the bottom line:
Vodacom are members of DMASA and therefore subscribe to their code of conduct.
DMASA code of conduct requires you not to send promotional stuff to anyone registered on their opt-out list, which I have been on for over a year.
DMASA also requires you to maintain and comply with your own opt-out list. I have registered the same cell number on this list 7 times now: in June 08, Sept 08, Dec 08, Mar 09, Jun 09, Jul 09 twice. But the spam still comes through.

If Vodacom does not want to or cannot comply with the above, you must:
Resign from DMASA
Release me- penalty free- from my contract so I can port to a more ethical SP

I'm with mtn but now i'm getting calls from VC wanting to sell me crap. I HATE big corporates, they seem to be the worst spammers.

Hi

As you know by now ;) i work for vodacom i get calls from Cell C every week asking me if i want a cellphone deal.

They normally phone from a private number which i hate answering but sometimes fall into their trap.

HOW DIFFICULT IS THIS- DON"T SPAM ME!!!!

Vodacom have now "resolved" my spam issue 9 times, over the past year, but again I got Vodacom spam, less than a week after all their self-congratulation.

At what point do you admit that you can't solve the problem, and release me from this contract, as it is the only way I can escape your spam. That's 10 strikes now. Get it right, or get out of my life.

I've opted out with DMASA over a year ago, and I've opted out with Vodacom 9 fornicating times.

WARNING! Your cellphone is a pickpocke

Check out the artical in the new noseweek about Vodacom...
That's about Vodacom and their proxy "WASP" companies daylight robbery.

WARNING! Your cellphone is a pickpocket

Unsolicited content services are rich pickings for unscrupulous network providers.

It appears that pre-paid subscribers are even being hit when they don't reply to messages because they don't have air time. When they later top up their account, the amount "owing" to the WASP is instantly deducted.

If Vodacom scam me or my family once more with their WASP BS, then we'll all be looking for another service provider for our phones and data modems.

Let's see if they do the honourable thing and make a feature to block all WASP BS available to their clients.

Shame on you VC
