China Internet addict beaten to death

The health ministry last month banned the use of electroshock therapy to treat Internet addiction, the China Daily said.

Hahaha! You gotta love China.

Those guys are hardcore man. Rather stay in single file formation and march to their orders....or else.

Parents probably feeling like s**t now :(

Who would have thought an internet addiction could kill.

This has nothing to do with human rights in China....in fact, the offending people who killed that child were arrested and will most likely be executed.

This seemed like a volunteer kid boot camp program.. like they have in America.. and on Dr Phil.

Nothing voluntary about it if his parents forced him to go. Article doesn't mention whether he was forced to go or not.

Would like to see the family that gives the kid a choice when they decide on something that's "Good for you"

You can't blame the parents though. There's a lot of these camps around China, and apparently they're quite good at what they do - the whole motivation being to get the kid out into the sunshine and convince them that there's an actual world outside their bedroom door.

Can't find the exact link about the camps in China - but it was started in S Korea - the NY Times did an article on it in 2007

Do they have any human rights in China?

If it's any consolation, this won't end well for the murderers.

Anyway, the West is as inundated with this sort of brutalised ****. Even if it isn't for "internet addiction"... Don't the Jesus camps, boot camps, drug rehab camps and anti-gay camps count for anything?

If it's got the word "camp" in it, it's probably full of ****.

Ive known about this camp for a while, its a place retarded parents send their kids if they play too much WOW.

Being sent by your parents sucks, but it was the guardian of that childs choice to send their child.

Its a stupid bad idea run by stupid people which can kill at it turns out, but those kinda things happen here.

I think the parents were doing what they they thought was best for their kid and the camp screwed up as it was bound to.

My parents basically forced me to do scouts.. I hated the camps.. they were so boring. I went because I would have gotten into trouble with my parents. My parents thought it would be good for me (and are most likely right) and they forced me.

The kids on Dr Phil are sent to a boot camp if they become bad kids.

So to me.. yeah.. while what happened sucked and the boot camp is a bad idea... and a poor kid lost his life. I dont see this as a Chinese government human rights issue as what seems to be indicated in this thread.

Perhaps its just because I am looking at them from a different perspective. If the child was forced to go by the Chinese government.. then yes.. thats a possible abuse of human rights. If the parent chose for the kid to go there (thinking it was safe).. I dont see that as a human rights issue but more case of bullies that went too far and are now going to pay for it. Most likely with their lives.

I am pretty confident the Chinese government will now make sure these kinda camps are more regulated and hopefully Chinese citizens will have more personal protection and safeguards to prevent this kinda incident in the future. China is changing in its own way very quickly now and the Chinese government is very sensitive to this kinda stuff. Though they still need a hellava lot of reform.

Its better now to live in China now than it was 10 or 20 or 30 years ago... or whenever.

Jesus Camp anyone ?

I hate that and I hate that those kinda people exist and I will do my best to educate people about dangers like that.

This was not a religious indoctrination camp though, it was a boot camp for addiction. You get these all over the world.

"Which is worse? Crazy Middle Eastern folks or the Chinese?"

Gang rapists who walk free. Corrupt government officials. Drug-laden junky killers. Generalizing hypcrites.

Take your pick.
