I have never liked South African pop music.

I have an utter dislike in Afrikaans pop music purely because I view it as "kommin" after years of conditioning by adverts of compilation CDs of Afrikaans music called "Kielie my Mielie", or "Jan Louw se Bokjol Treffers" and similar music all based on tunes that will suit "sokkies" attended by white Afrikaans-speaking people dressed in denim jeans and either t-shirts or Old Khaki (bought at your local Cape Union Mart) button-down shirts.

But I've fallen victim to five songs.

Kaptein span die seile - Kurt Darren
Af en af - Kurt Darren
Voorwaarts Mars - Kurt Darren
Rock daai lyfie - Nicholis Louw
Is jy bang - Eden

The only reason I sometimes listen to Afrikaans music is for comedy. It is hilarious!

That's why my collection is limited to 5 songs. Afrikaans artists will have to work hard to gain more support from me.
 
to fall victim to liking ONE track is bad ..... to fall victim to liking FIVE is just shameful shame.

daai song is so donders tapid, ek will my radia stukken slaan as tuks fm dit weer speel.
 
I've never been a fan of any pop, english or Afrikaans, there aren't many Afrikaans rock bands, the few that exist is semi decent, 1/10 of them I guess.

Patricai lewis is tappid. daardie is die moderne koos kombuis.
 
If anyone quotes me on the following, I will track them down & cut them:
Dozi & Nia Nel have a new CD out where they do covers of jazz standards. I really like what I've heard so far and they are not my fave genre in the least.

But most Afrikaans pop is cheesetastic. You either switch off or listen & lol. I saw a vid of some song about a dude & his Waterskoeter...Almost broke a rib from laughing so much. It must've been filmed in Harties and he's going on about how he wants to "toeter" his waterskoeter when he sees this girl. There's 4 poppies in bikinis, an old oom fishing who gets splashed by the singer zooming past him...Oh man, its lame but hilarious.

I have no idea where they get the budget for some of these vids. There's another Afrikaans dude (has a Cassanova hairstyle, stache & bokkie) who has this cheesy English song (forgot both their names) but the video was shot in soft focus in some European city, with a model chick driving him around in a white Lexus convertible. I had to watch the whole thing to figure out where it was shot but I couldn't place it. They play this thing all the time on DSTV "Soundcheck".
