this is sad!

"Any possibilities of Formula One returning to South Africa's Kyalami circuit appear to have gone up in smoke after plans to host a race were cancelled. It is believed that Gauteng province, home of the track, has failed to meet government wishes and could also lose other main motorsport series as a result."

nope... the reason A1 was moved away to Gauteng was the Durban street's are not wide enough for the newer cars which is built on the same format as the ferrari f1 car... and remember that with f1, the cars rev way higher than the A1 cars, therefore windows of the buildings will have to be reinforced or changed to shatterproof material like in Monaco - i stand to be corrected though ;)
 
Was it a "lay down misere" that Kyalami would have hosted another F1 race...or is it just a bit of bidding BS to push up the hosting asking price.

Yes..everyone appears to 'want' it...but few make any money out of it...just ask Melbourne, Adelaide etc

Same for OG and WC... Sydney had the "best Olympics ever" everything 'on budget' 'on time' , 'on everything'...so why are NSW taxpayers still paying off and maintaining white elephants.

Wait until you guys pay the WC off and then try to waste money on F1...that may take forever though.;)
 
Kyalami lost the Gauten government sponsorship. Even the regional racers are feeling the hit as our entry fees will go up to R1000 per race should there not be enough entries. :(

Aussie Grand Prix posts another $40 million loss

And this is in a country where ticket prices are probably 5 times more than can be asked in SA, Corporate and hotel deals more expesive,TV deals similarly more lucrative, a track that has already hosted quite a few years, sell out crowd etc etc.

This is only a money making sport for F1 itself and the drivers etc...I doubt the owners (car manufacturers) are even making a buck out of the exposure (hard to quantify).

It is a sport for people who already have a lot of money and think its cool to own a team.

correcto mondo, well it wasnt a case of it being "wide" enough most parts of the track were wider that monaco but the main reason was for run of area's. They were far to short for the car's and at the new speeds the current barriers were not strong enough, but for F1 the Durban circuit would have failed in every aspect & yes the high pitch of engine noise could do serious damage to windows near to the circuit.

There we go, the same old story. Reverse racism at play? Does he mean it's because blacks as a mojority does not support the "Sport" that he denounced the venture? If so to be expected. Only in Africa.

The bill was footed in the past by motor corporations doing development and testing. That was the main reason. Somehow it seems that changed?

Anyway the influx of foreigners and investment also comes to mind. Exactly the same arguments goes for all sports ventures. Is the Olympics profittable?

Probably not.....the 'majority' is the majority of tax payers , which as you you is probably still not black in terms of monetary value.
Tax payers don't support soccer or Rugby...not to same extent anyway

Lets not even ask Montreal or Athens...lets look at what the IOC classed as the "best games ever".

Ask the tax payers and workers of NSW (Sydney). The biggest state in Australia, with the highest % of tourism, has lagged behind the rest of the country in employment rate, GDP growth rate and more visibly infra structure spending in the decade since the OG.
And this is despite the fact that the games were supposed to be "on budget" "on time".
The legacy of it is that the OG development (white elephants) continue to suck the life out of the economy for years and money that could be spent on roads (all new freeways are private toll roads now), hospitals (worst in country) , schools etc is not there. (or not enough).

Its a nice feel good thing to have the OG and WC...but before you go down the road of F1, perhaps wait to see the long term effect of WC.
