Pay as you go 3G

I'm getting 3G primarily for Forex/Equity/etc. trading which uses very little bandwidth. For this i think 3G is going to be a great sollution.

My only gripe is that the bandwidth is paid for on a monthly basis, meaning that even on the smaller packages I'm going to lose bandwidth and therefore money every month. At 60c/80c/R1 per MB this is quite a lot. So I would like to know if Vodacom would be willing to sell bandwidth on a prepaid basis similar to what they are doing at the moment, just without the monthly expiry of the bandwidth. I understand that Vodacom does not want people accumulating bandwidth so it could be limited to a maximum of 500MB or whatever for the carryover.

My question is therefore directed at Vodacom3G but I would also like to get feedback whether other users would like this option.

Well, you can run 3G on a prepaid sim. You then only pay for what you use. ANd you can only use as much money as is available on the your prepaid account. Top-up to get more.

Of course then you have to pay R2/MB.

But if you use very little data then it might be worth it.

This is how I started out, but it's working out to be more cost effective by far on contract.

You have a few options:

1) Get a contract or data bundle and adjust it up and down once a month to ensure you only pay for what you need.

2) Pay out-of-bundle rates for the next while, till pre-paid bundles become available. They're definitely on the way. We've been saying this for a while but just like pre-paid voice, requires more complex systems. These are being implemented at the moment.

A few questions regarding these pre-paid bundles:

1.) Will these pre-paid bundles also expire every month or will they only reduce through usage, as with existing pre-paid voice bundles? (My main concern)
2.) Will pre-paid 3G packages also offer reduced per MB pricing? (Less than R2/MB)

Do you think this will be a more cost effective route or should I rather go for a contract package?
