Is this a good temp car?

Opel Kadette Cub 1.4
100 000km on the clock
1992 model
R11 000
Very good condition

Honestly, just getting something that runs for R11k would be a bargain. Take it for a drive, make sure the brakes actually slow down the car & accept that it will probably leave you stranded at some point.

That, or get a scooter...
 
The mileage sounds a bit low for that model.
The 1.4 Cub was a good little car in it's day. We had the later 93 model which became Car of the Year and it was a solid vehicle. I think the motor between the two is identical, just the body changed.
However by now it will need work on the brakes, clutch perhaps and some little joints by the front suspension. It will have to pass a roadworthy too.

Only way of knowing what is wrong is by sending it to a dealer and asking them for a quote on a full service and see what it comes up with.

The price - that is not money.
But you know the old saying, goedkoop is duurkoop.
 
You could also get the AA to test it. I think it's about R500, but they will/should check everything - tell you if it's been in major accidents, structural damage, etc.

Mileage does sound very low. Would they reset the mileage if the engine has been replaced?

Maybe it's been clocked. :rolleyes: Although, aren't those the Opels that did "the moon run" back in the day? ie. drove the equivalent distance to the moon in one go (?)

EDIT: Although the distance to the moon doesn't come close to clocking it. Still impressive that they could do it.

The price is correct, and it is unlikely to be shot engine wise at that mileage!

That is what I paid for my Fazda with double the mileage, and I haven't regretted it at all!
 
That is toy money. However, Opels just keep going. They never break. Ever. So go for it!

When I purchased my first car that definately did not work for me. I think the seller 'made a plan and all' with the inspection dude.
 
What is that website where you can enter engine number and so on and find out if the car is stolen/has been reconstituted? Heard it on the radio...autosomething

well, my last car Opel Astra 1.6 was okay but I wouldnt recommend it..could be that i got the bad one perhaps..
