Road Problems in Johannesburg: Traffic lights, potholes, road markings etc.

Everyone knows the quality of Johannesburg roads has been on a decline in the past few years. Over the past week, I have noticed a rapidly increasing number of traffic lights in Johannesburg experiencing a problem where at least one of the 3 globes in the traffic light have blown, and this can be quite unnerving when crossing an intersection and the light suddenly goes dead.

If anyone else has noticed any problems around the Johannesburg area, please list the intersection where the problem occurs and for how long it has been going on. Also list any other details you have, e.g. if the problem has been lodged with the JRA list the reference number. I will attempt to contact the applicable ward councillors for the relevant area and ask them to escalate the query so as to ensure a faster turnaround time. Problems include faulty traffic lights, faded street markings, stolen signs, defaced or damaged signs, signs obstructed by foliage or construction, etc.

Edit: Also willing to report overhead streetlights that are out.

Intersection of K101 and Le Roux rd Midrand.

I cross this intersection in night time 05:15AM daily and must say it's been out (traffic lights) for at least a month .... Every 2nd day I see some new spares in the road as vehicles has smashed into each other for not stopping or not seeing the intersection. Only luck that no one has been killed yet .

Chevron boards missing on speed humps " President Brand Street Benoni "
Pothole cnr Tjello and Drum drive Rynfield Bononi
Road building department left all their rubble in Lessing street Rynfield Benoni after re surfacing Lessing street " been there for weeks"

this is exciting ... maybe i should go for a quick drive :D

I challenge a techie to build a website for reporting this stuff.

I could help spec it :)

Ideally a database driven app that can track the faults (using some form of available street name database). That way the fault resolution process can be tracked.

For example: the K101 and Le Roux traffic lights have been out of action for close on 6 weeks. Evidently this is due to a cable theft. I don't think Seacom took 6 weeks to lay :)

Nice idea.

But K101 can't be cable theft as it is in flashing RED state when outsurance points men are there in the afternoon :confused:

Has to be within the jurisdiction of the City of Johannesburg (i.e. the Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan Council). Benoni falls outside of their service area.
 
William Nicol Drive, section between Clonmore/Dover road and Bryanston Drive. Road is in an appalling state!

Have sent an email to the Bryanston East Community Forum to get the contact details for their Ward Councillor. The Johannesburg Roads Agency's switchboard is experiencing technical difficulties and they no longer offer a direct line via the Joburg Connect switchboard, so having a bit of trouble reporting anything not maintained by City Power.
 
Dovi, thanks for your efforts. Was thinking of setting up a thread like this but you beat me to it. :)

Anyway, the traffic lights on Linden and Grayston in Sandton is a joke. I left the office at lunch and they were fine but when I got back an hour later, flashing on red. Something is seriously wrong with those lights.
