So, after my nightmare of a two year MTN contract - I'm quite reluctant to get another contract... although I'm pretty sure Vodacom won't be as bad...

What you you guys think? Currently on prepaid, and its been cheap, spent R140 odd this month on calls/data.

I'd be interested in a R500-R600 contract though so I can either get the Touch Pro 2 or new iPhone.

Well, go for it, but ur current (R140) usage does not warrant a R500 contract? furthermore, the pay in on the iphone is madness.

Whats the pay-in?

Nothing on here: http://www.cellucity.co.za/images/powerdeals.jpg

Yeh, my usage might go up - I'll have to monitor it - if not, MTN was really screwing me, which wouldn't be a surprise, fortunately, they're gone for good.

actually the pay-in on that is R209/pm for the handset (iphone) = R5016 over the 24 months. Minutes are off-peak and so are smss so it's not really a great deal imho.

why not stay on paygo for a few months til the iphone becomes more affordable?

I'd go for a iPhone Vodacom contract, cos you get like 100 smses for free + free voice minutes + 250MB data each month + you're paying your iPhone off over 24 months, instead of having to part with R8500 cash.

Just my 2c.

Yip I was in the same boat. Also fed up with MTN - so I moved to Vodacom and went for the Touch Pro2. Having played with an iPhone I wanted something that was .. well more business like, which the TP2 more than fulfulls. I was a bit of a nokia fan - but having played with a real N97 I went the HTC route.

I have no clue what your requirements are (phone wise) - but I'd personally steer anyone towards the TP2 (if they want a keyboard .. if not .. then the Diamond2 is the same spec phone - just sans keyboard)

Pay-ins. I am doing the R189 per month payin for the TP2 (that is ontop of the talk time package) the Diamond2 is around R69 per month I think (they originally quoted me on the D2 - hence I know the price)

That iPhone 250megs + 50sms package can be bolted onto most other phones too I heard. It costs around R180 or so per month extra (speaking under correction here).

So yeah .. do what I did .. watch loads of YouTube video reviews of the two (or more) devices you want then decide :)

Good luck either way

Thanks :)

also leaning towards the Touch Pro 2 - not really into multimedia via phone, so I won't be using it for music or anything else.

Only use it for email, browsing, calls, GPS, etc....

I'm almost in the same boat as you however I've never really considered the iPhone. I've played with one and it looks like a sweet phone but it just doesn't yell "TAKE ME!" for some or other strange reason.

My contract is expiring the end of this month (the 24th month now I think) and so I plan to move...well will probably ask them to change it to a pre-paid (something I imagine that will make porting easier) and then I'll decide on who has the best deal on the TP2.

Let's get one together! lol.
