The 'unsmartphone' - Nokia 5800: First impressions

Interesting review...

i got mine in March, so i've used it quite a bit...
The thing that really annoys me about it is that it keeps
wiping out data for no particular reason.
All my installed apps have disappeared.. :(

Have had / used almost every phone in the book :) and after using the HTC Tytn2 I was put off touch screen phones for life.........or so I thought........then this Nokia 5800 comes along......and wow, so impressed with it, the best value for money phone I have ever owned.

My wife's 5800 arrived yesterday....

I'm fairly impressed with the touch UI. I can't seem to find a way to save a wifi profile and set the default wifi profile.

I can't believe the accessories that are supplied with this phone!

Currently, I believe it's crucial to have a great supporting content site/system to take advantage of the smartphone.

If Nokia can get their online app/music/content store as active as iTunes, I think they'll have a get solution!

Mine just kinda saved my router's details and it seems you can add more as you discover more hotspots. There is a setting to autodiscover too.

Neither can I!

I read somewhere that the data loss has more to do with buggy formatting that nokia uses and the memory cards messing around, try replacing your memory card and see what happens.. furthermore.. its a decent phone.

Had my 5800XM since March, very good value phone, just the plasticky build quality could be better. Had no unusual bugs with my phone, godd Nokia pushing out the firmware updates for this phone. The next update is gonna be big with new 5530 homescreen & kinetic scrolling

I also experienced the data loss issue from the MMC, once you have updated to the current 30.0.0.11 firmware, reboot and format the card from the phone itself.

Of course, first make a Backup to Memory Card, then Copy the content of the MMC to your PC Hardrive.

Never had an issue with data loss after that again.

As mentioned above you can just put a new MMC as that will also work but that only if you dont have tons of apps already installed.

This phone is very good value for the money and offers many features that more expensive phones dont.

Hmmm, now that I am elegable for an upgrade the iPhone 3Gs is looking more and more attractive

Should I or should I not ????

sigh ....

Found it...RTFM ;)

I'm heading for the iPhone 3Gs because of iTunes (I subscribe to a number of podcasts), otherwise, this is a great little phone. I did consider BB, but the service sucks at the moment without any improvement insight.

The memory loss problem occurs after using the video camera, try it.

Just made three videos, viewed each of them and deleted the second one, it was the longest, seven minutes.

Switched off the phone, restarted, again view the remaining videos.

Have not experienced any data loss, on the 30.0.0.11 firmware

Maybe your MMC is corrupted?

ok..so i reformatted the memory card did a hard reset and i reinstalled some apps to the phone memory.. hope i dont have this issue again...
