So I go to the MTN store (the one in 3 Simmonds, Standard bank building) and I tell the lady I need to RICA approve. She says they can't do RICA, but they are still selling cellphone contracts. Now, how are they selling cellphone contracts that aren't RICA approved? Isn't this against the law? Only hit me now that they are doing this, so I am going to head back down during lunch and question them, to see what they say.

MTN store that can't rica? that doesn't seem right...

should escalate this to MTN HO

u think that is bad......

took out new contract at the end of July....asked if I need to be rica-fied ..no sir....

Well guess what, put in new sim....before you can use your new contract, you need to have registered for Rica, blah, blah..... So did that....sim went live.

Contract is still not active....as they having activation problems....for the last few weeks...?? pointless calling their help numbers...for there is no help....so patiently awaiting first bill,.....that is delayed tooo....due to....mmmm.....technical problems....whats up with MTN, you guys use to be crap but this is madness.

I'm guessing the brass upstairs at the Stores didn't bother to notify the little peon at ground level...

Yea, went back she said they don't have their password or something to RICA people. How hard is it to get an MTN store its password? Especially when that MTN store sits in Standard Banks head office, and they service most of the bank? I really think i must escalate this, i rate she was just being lazy. Dr_Data, u work for mtn ?

ye got my sms today about the whole rica thing. Looks like I'm going into an MTN store this weekend

Got my sim activated else where, was pretty quick. Loaded some airtime, and now I dial *123*13# to get the gprs settings. save them and then phone still wont connect via gprs... I get a Internet: Unable to connect. Try again error. Its a nokia e65. Do they take a while to activate the GPRS line ?

you gotta go to an MTN store where your contract is held....
I understood that u can go to 'ANY' MTN supplier/store to get RICA reg done.
So I rocked up at MTN-SP store in Kolonade with my Prepaid, and a MTNSP, iTalk and NashuaMobile contracts...
they ONLY do prepaid and MTNSP contracts, .... for iTalk and Nashua contracts I must f-off and annoy somebody else :)
I contacted iTalk to find out where to RICA the iTalk account, and this is their reply :
"Good day. We do not have a list of the RICA associated stores or representatives. You may log onto their website and find there contact details for further assistance"
Is that a f'd up answer or what!

Pity we can't bill gov for our time wasted with this BS.

Take it too the Vodashop next door, you should be able to do it and swap your service provider at the same time. Will be for the best.

Oh and I used the Vodashop at 6 Symonds, just gave them a copy of my ID and a bill and they did it.... no issues.

Sometimes, not 100% sure why.

Yes

Can someone give some clearance on when iTalk customers will be officially MTN customers.

Reason i ask is i tried do my RICA after receiving my sms from MTNSP, but the lady told me I am not an MTNSP customer and will have to do it with iTalk of which i can't because their stores are closed.

According to iTalk, the movement from iTalk to MTNSP should have taken place as of September ( now ) yet according to MTN's website I'm still an iTalk customer.

MTN are having so much problems with Rica. They can only give you your contract phone once the line is active. This can take up to a month or 2
