In the Womb: Identical Twins

We are expecting twins, and someone told me that "In the Womb: Identical Twins" was aired on Discovery earlier this year. Is there any chance that someone has an .avi copy of this on their hardrive in the JHB area? Will collect.

I can only find "In the Womb: Multiples" on the newsservers, and the Identical Twins torrent doesn't have enough seeds :(

Hee hee good luck I have identical twins now aged six....... you going to be a very happy person when they are born.

We can't wait - not sure if we are having identical or fraternal twins, but we are having 2 boys anyway :) If they look alike when born, then we may do the DNA testing.
Wonder how many other peeps here have twins? I know Pitbull has twin girls as well :D

Firstly congrats man! Secondly, you'll find that more and more people are having twins, triplets and quads. :eek:
 
We are expecting twins as well. We're going on week 18 now. How do you not know if they are identical or fraternal yet? It should be apparent by now. Basically identicals (Monozygotic) share the same placenta and fraternal (Dizygotic) have seperate placentas. Check out the Wikipedia entry.

Fraternal twins and other multiples are becoming more common mainly due to fertility treatments where a few eggs are implanted in the hope that at least one is fertilised. When more than one then become fertilised then multiples occur.

Identicals are something that just happen by chance (the fertilised egg splits and replicates) and cant be influenced by fertility treatment etc.

How far along are you guys? And isnt it such an awesome and scary experience at the same time?!

We are going on 19 weeks :D
How can you be sure you are having identical? Are they Monochorionic-Diamniotic "Mo-Di"?

We are "most-likely" having fraternal boys, since they are Di-Di (Dichorionic-Diamniotic). There is no way of telling at the moment whether they are dizygotic or monozygotic. We are happy with them being Di-Di, as this is the safest for the babies, with the lowest mortality rate.
Approx 70-75% of Di-Di twins end up being fraternal - which leaves a 25-30% chance of them being identical. It all depend on when the egg splits, if it splits early, and the eggs have time to move apart before getting to the uterus, then they can be Di-Di. If the split occurs later, then they don't have enough time to move apart, and then end up sharing either placentas and sacs/amnions or both.
Mono-Mono (where they share amnion and sac) is the highest mortality, since they are in the same sac – there is high risk of cords being tangled or strangling the babies.

We don’t mind whether they are identical or fraternal – we just want 2 healthy babies.
( I am secretly hoping for identical though – since a B/G combo is out the window now :D )
 
My twins are now 3 months old and I also missed that bloody episode. And for once in the history of DSTV there was no FK'ng rerun of it :mad:

So it can be ordered from Take2?
 
Grey hairs start the day they are born, because they are generally premature and come unexpected, like when you are working 370km away and your wife phones you and says " Lovey I think I am going into labour" :( at 12 at night !

My twins was 6 weeks prem. I was only 70k's away in Joburg though
