Hi all,

Regarding the ICASA hearings -
I was thinking that we can't let this opportunity for publicity pass us by. I think it would be a good idea if we each individually email one or two local papers and say something like:

"This week ICASA is holding public hearings on Telkom's broadband prices at the ICASA offices in JHB. It will be interesting to see what is said at these hearings. I really hope that your newspaper will carry reports on the precedings."

Maybe if we all pledge to send an email like this to at least one newspaper, then the papers will cover the hearings well. It will also let the papers know that there are many people interested in telecoms issues in SA. Plus it would give publicity to MyAdsl, and the general disatisfaction with Telkom's prices in the country. Small little actions like this could go a long way and build up the foundation from which we can fight from.

After "The Practice" (gotta watch it, James Spader is so funny!), I will email two newspapers.

Anyone who does do this, it's a good idea to come back here to this thread and say which papers you have emailed. Maybe we could try get two or three different emails to each major newspaper in the country?

Debbie

(rpm, pls remove this post if you think it to be inappropriate. Though I really do think it is a good idea)

shoooooo.. activist indeed! :)
will mail a few publications and see what the plans are.. hopefully the even will get lots of attention cos the public needs to know bout Telskom and their ripoffs

Also.. anyone here with a digital video camera and a tripod?? :D

Seeing as these are public hearings I'm sure ICASA wouldn't mind us recording the event.

We could make some nice MPeg4 Video for the members who cannot attend

Right, well, I think I've done my bit. I emailed the newsdesks at The Star and the Mail&Guardian and asked them to please cover the ICASA hearings.

Please, I ask that everyone else do the same. It is very important that we let the media know our level of interest in telecoms issues. We can't expect things to change overnight, but there are little things we can do to push and put pressure on government.

Brilliant idea Debbie2

I think it would also be good, if in your email, you include this url:
  • [post=184857]ADSL Hearings Date Change![/post]
[note: not a link to this thread - we don't want journos not pitching up bcos they think others have outscooped them :D]

Now I must find some email addresses, methinks I will also email ETV, Carte Blanche, Special Assignment, ...

So has anyone notified SABC, E-TV, MNET(Carteblanche) ?

What about Special Assignment. I am sure Carte Blanche and Special Assignment would be keen to be involved. Afterall, they publicised that MaD Guy. :D

emails to SABC bounce, no delivery report from Carte Blanche

Well I have read receipts from 4 people @ ETV, a bunch of delivery failures from SABC - nothing got through [so please email the SABC - maybe your's will get through], nothing from Carte Blanche.

Methinks the more people that email, the more the message will get through.

Good day

This is an email from an ordinary consumer, begging for some TV coverage of
ICASA's Public Hearings on Telkom's ADSL service, following the official
complaint lodged with ICASA by MyADSL.co.za against Telkom, with a long list
of damning transgressions against consumers as well as existing ADSL
customers.

The Public Hearing starts tomorrow morning (Wednesday 13th April) at ICASA's
Johannesburg offices off Katherine in Sandton, it is open to the public, which
obviously means the press as well.

More info here:
http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?p=184857#post184857

Your support will be greatly appreciated by all members of the MyADSL.co.za /
MyBroadband.co.za forum. Please be sure to cover the submissions of
MyADSL.co.za members.

It is extremely important that the issues and suggested solutions presented at
the Public Hearings get national TV coverage - the public/consumers need to be
informed.

Regards

ic.

DEbbie2...

*sigh...didnt come in here last night ... had no idea about your suggestion to mail local papers and yesterday morning sent a mail to Natal Mercury Letters to suggest that readers find myadsl and hellkom and support you and Gregg...
I really dont know if twill even get published so maybe a good idea for someone coherent to contact them as well about the ICASA hearings..?

Ooops...

WretchedToad :D

Hi folks

I have just sent out an email to all users reminding them about the ICASA hearings. My apologies for the grammatical errors in the email…I am rather busy and just wanted to get it done…mistake :D

Regards,

RPM

Wretched Toad- Thanks!

ic - Thanks for trying to get hold of the media. I am not prepared to fight with Carte Blanche's/Mnet's stupid website, I have tried many times before and the frustration that DUMB CONFUSING site causes has made me never want to go back to it. (If anyone happens to be reading this and be the web designer, then no offence, but that site sucks a great deal. Fix it.)

I will phone the SABC tomorrow, as well as the etv newsdesk. I have also FWDed that Telkom chickening out email to the Mail And Guardian as well as explained a little bit of background behind everything. Hopefully MG will cover the events.

Wish I could be there - I might make it Monday, but absolutely cannot this week due to another conference.

okai, im ganna be there with a digital cam and iburst connection, try to live video (or picture capture), and try broadcast it live with commentry

Please can I ask someone to take a look the link provided by Decotey and email more media agencies/papers.

I am so overloaded atm I am in danger of not graduating.
