Yep, I did it, I missed the tax return deadline. I know I am in trouble and I know I will pay some kind of a fine, how much is that fine? I am in my mid 20's and I earn less than R200 K per annum. So what's the penalty for not submitting your tax return on time?

:o

i know nothing about tax and what not but i heard them say if you go in to SARS and let them capture your returns electronically you still have till november or something.

maybe someone knows more regarding this one.

Just submit it in person at a SARS office. The deadline was only for posted or "drop-box" returns.

i am a tax consultant if you need my help pm me i will assist you.

If you're in mid 20's and on MyBB then you should be using efiling, way way simpler.

by the way the penalties have changed from the 2009 year. SARS can impose anything up to R11000 per unsubmitted tax return from now on.

@Celine

What is happening with the 2010 Tax season, wrt car allowances. Has the bill been passed for keeping a log book?

She'll/he'll want money for advice! ;)

Before you all get the crap scared out of you and you go running to a tax consultant when one is not really needed :

According to the proposed scale of penalties, an individual taxpayer earning less than R300 000 per annum will be penalised R500 if their return is submitted less than three months late. A further penalty of R1 000 will be imposed for each additional three-month period that the return is late, topping out at a wallet-lightening R11 500.

SARS has stipulated that a logbook has got to be kept iro of all travel allowances from the 2010 tax year. i would imagine that they will want them to be submitted with the returns or uploaded on the e-filing when claiming against the allowance.
lancelotsa - just because i told sly to pm me does not mean i am wanting to take him on as a client. all i am wanting to do is give him guidelines. if he wishes to become my client fine fair and well. but until such time i don't charge consultant fees like other tax consultants do.

Tax return deadline is sometime in november for e-filing. And if you don't do e-filing, well I heard on the radio that SARS says you can go to them and they will capture your e-filing for you so that your return is not considered late.

please be aware that the SARS official can capture your return online at their offices but if you have a travel allowance on your income, the official cannot do any logbooks for you. neither can the official do any financials for a sole proprietor, cc etc. this is where the catch comes in. the SARS official will only click "file" and bobs your uncle your return has been filed. i have gained many clients because of this very fact of SARS. they also don't check your return properly all they are doing is clicking the "file" button.

Ok,im taking Friday off to do sort a few things out but mainly my tax

lets just say im completely useless at these things.i wanted to submit online but i dont have a tax reference number. i do paye Tax (PAYE??) every month so i just need to get registered and submit before the 20th.i have an email at work explaining what to do as a 1st time tax payer but my question is do i really have to go stand in line at one of the SARS offices? i thought everything can be done electronically these days

i earn under 200k p/annum so i guess i wont be penalised too much if im late and i do pay tax so im not a criminal.im just very confused about this whole system and even when i ask the guys at work they all have different views on it.wtf.going on about IRP's and bla bla bla.... eish. any help please guys :(

Your company should have filled in your IRP 5. If you register online you will see some of your information online. Just fill in the rest and submit. It is really easy. You can also go into a SARS branch and they will help you. They are probably the only government department that got better in leaps and bounds.

I had to go stand in the line with my documents to become registered, the nice lady at SARS gave me my tax number within 15mins.

I will say this, a lot of government offices in SA suck sideways. but SARS is a very, very efficient machine.

e-Filing is the best thing ever invented for tax payers. Of course I had to pay in this year cause clever me didnt do enough mileage on the car and didnt keep a log book *sigh* thankfuly it was a negligble amount.

They only want your money to pay for Mercs and 4*4's and get fat off the poor taxpayer. Bring your own vaseline and bend over.
