My younger brother is a World of Warcraft freak - he plays about 6 hours a day. Recently we noticed that his computer is constantly accessing the internet even if he isn't logged on or downloading anything (by looking at the ADSL modem/router ligths
). This has also resulted in a lot of extra data usage - to the extent of up to 1GB a day... Living in South Africa we are still paying a hefty amount (with Seacom glittering on the horizon ) and cannot afford this additional usage...
I cannot blame World of Warcraft for the additional usage, therefore posting here. I did a netstat -b and found that explorer.exe established a full time connection to customer.teliacarrier.com - but I cannot find out who or what this is? A bit of good old googling left me with more questions but teliacarrier seems to be gaming orientated if I'm not mistaken, and has been mentioned in a World of Warcraft thread, but on a more general term.
So could somebody please tell me what teliacarrier is, and if it could be the reason for the additional data transfers? How can I stop it from doing its thing?
For the record he is using Vista with automatic updates disabled.
