What I've noticed is that the tower only shows "Yello Broadband" half the time, the other half it shows the location message. Why, I don't know.
And its not because my phone switched to another tower, I can see the channel numbers on my old Nokia, the same channel number sometimes gives me "Yellow Broadband" and other times just "Stellenbosch."

MTNBB Coverage map available?

BTW I am VERY happy with GPRS at this stage - works great with my online DB processing I need to do from time to time, but at the cost, I am a little wary of just going the whole hog and using it for all my browsing, etc. If it were a little cheaper with less annual commitment, I would certainly replace anything else I have with MTN Edge...
