Playing VOB files on Xbox 360 via Windows 7

Hi All

For the life of me I don't understand why I can't stream VOB files to my Xbox 360:confused:. In Windows 7 you can play the files with out any issues.

Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve the problem or have a work around?

I have ripped all of my DVDs for the sake of backing them up in case people don't return my DVDs or they get stolen. Besides the fact there is nothing better that just switching on the Xbox and choosing the DVD you want to watch with out having to swop DVDs etc.

Any advise or help would be greatly appricated.

Simple

The answer is quite simple, the Xbox does not understand VOB files.

Are you trying to access VOB files directly from a data DVD or are you trying to stream across the network?
 
What I use at home is a application called TVersity.

TVersity has a feature called "transcoding", where it takes whatever format the video on your PC/laptop is, and on the fly encodes it to a format that the Xbox understands, most likely WMV.

The solution works (although you need a killer PC to transcode high-def content on the fly) but it is still not fool-proof. Whether TVersity can transcode VOB's into WMV's, I don't know and I haven't tested it. Always worth a try!

I am trying to stream the VOB from media center on Windows 7 to the Xbox 360.

Ill try the TVersity software later today and let you know how it goes.
