White South African wins visa over crime fear

I don't get it - she moved there eight years ago when she was 14, she's been married to an Irishman for three years and they still turned her down for a visa? :confused:

EDIT - and her entire family seems to be there.

Seems that Ireland was doing their level best to keep her from getting permanent citizenship.

Missed the action? Won't go into detail but he started a "reasonable" though thinly disguised discussion but as per norm it deteriorated into a rant.

Sad thing is as someone mentioned, he was privately educated and well off so for him to spout his diatribe doesn't offer much hope that people will see how much more benefit there is in working together rather than trying to punish one portion of the population either way.

Was sad really :(

What's more surprising than the fact that he was a phantom troll was that the mods were so happy to put up with him for so long. It was clear from his first post what he intended.

I was confused also.

From what I gather it seems like a very strict policy in Ireland. However what is more scary is that after staying there for 8 years and even doing her studies there she was declined, but when she pulls the crime/race card she gets it in one go :confused:

Seems like the world is alarmed by the crime rate in SA.

It seems that this is another case of sensationalised journalism making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I'll be honest - when I was turned down for residency - and told I had a month to pack up and leave despite being married to a citizen - I was desperate enough to have tried almost anything.

I think because of the economic situation countries are very strict on who is staying and who is allowed to work.
( we had this Investec thing this week and they explained this to us. Too long to go into it now)
So I guess you have to have a reason for staying and working.
 
I worked in Ireland for a few years and they're very strict. You can never become a citizen only have residency rights.

It's true that as a female she is more likely to be a target for crime, that's true everywhere, but because she is white, doubtful.

It is strange however that having been resident there for so many years, and married to a citizen, she cannot get leave to stay through normal channels. Ireland is perhaps still quite insular.

Funny thing is I know a few people who were the victims of fairly nasty muggings when they lived in Ireland, but have never been attacked in South Africa. Just your usual white-on-white violence over there I suppose.

Very true.

Why didn't they give her the Visa from the start though? :confused:

I think the reason that she's been there for around 8 years already was the biggest deciding factor in her claim. Would love to know what influance the "crime rate" had on this application.

I was in Ireland a few years ago with my wife. They had somekind of Church holiday there and the people marched through the streets. Somewhere along this march the 2 sides of the Christian communties crossed each others ways.
(Catholic and Protestant) It turned into a brawl for all, was pretty scary. The police came and broke them up.

Isn't that what the whole Irish terrorism problem revolves around? The religous split between the two groups? Thats always been my impression and also how "funny" it is that two sects of the same religion are willing to kill\maim each other over it.
