Hi guys

Looking for another souloution without having to go ADSL or telkom route ?
for my house, is there any other products out there that could potentially giv me broadband connectivity ? IE 3G routers and so on ?

Yip, you can go Vodacom or MTN 3G/HSDPA or iBurst. There is talk of Telkom WiMax, but apparently they only give that if ADSL is unavailable in your area.

That's a Myth, Telkom Wimax is available even if you're within an ADSL available area.

Reliability is obviously not one of his requirements, so I would say, if you like spending your money (and lots of money) go wireless for the most unreliable expensive method of connecting to the internet.... ever.... unless you're with Telkom (Wimax or Otherwise)

I've been online since 1995... and have had everything. Wired = best and least expensive if you know how to shop around.

Agree 100%, but he asked what his options were, so I just gave them to him.

ok so wimax who would i contact ??

do i go directly to MTN or VODACOM ? or is there suppliers for this ?

Go straight to MTN / Vodacom for the 3G option. Contact Telkom wrt the WiMax. I forgot, NeoTel also has "broadband" options.

eish what is the fastest possible connection from either of these guys ?

Ok who can supply this ? is there a place i can call ?

but remember its for about 5 users at the same time its going to have to be connected to a switch ? like a network

The reason why I haven't recommended 3G at all is because it depends on coverage. You may have crap coverage and it would mean you have a crap connection, much like your cellphone has a crap connection even if fully covered. I found the signal to jump around quite a bit which then in turn makes my internet experience much like I had in 1992, funalee-****-all

Telkom Wimax. No Contract. No upfront purchase of Equipment. R240 per month for 512k and then you can get yourself (if you're quick!) a 5 gig account for R145 from Afrihost

That's a total of R385 per month for internet. No line charges or expensive "per mb out of bundle" rate and the connection is solid. They won't even install if they feel the connection might not be up to scratch. Plus you don't pay for line rental as per normal ADSL.

Sure 512k is a bit on the low side... but it acts as if you had an ADSL line and is upgradable to go much faster than that...

MTN / Vodacom 3G with HSDPA running at 7.2Mbps

:( You'll be lucky to ever see those speeds. And with no alternatives for bandwidth you'll pay R190 and upwards per gig. Cost effective only if you plan on using 2-3 gigs per month or less.

lol a guy just told me vodacom is working on a 20MBps link for home users ?? hahahahaha

lol telkom is cheapest option no matter which way u turn

wimax,
