I moved away from Telkom because of the complete and utter **** up they are, and on Principle i refuse to move back to them. (unless there is a massive change)
I burst for me has been alright, i have had no connectivity problems with I burst, i already knew the latency problems would be an issue when you conect wirelessly so surfing the net would not be fast as it could be.
One thing im pissed of about is the fact i pay R600.00 for a 1 meg connection that is not remotely a one meg connection, its the principle i think.

So my question is.
What are my alternatives? Its sure as hell not Telkom, the service i had with them was hard to describe (i feel like headbutting a wall because its less painfull then dealing with Telkom)
Who else is out there that can charge me less than R600 a month, because that is so disproportionaly hi for ADSL its not even funny.

How much is the one gig package in total?
and the problem is i think 2 gig would be a better package at cheaper rates because i think one gig would not be suffice to just surf and get the odd download ect?

For a flat rate internet access, your options are:
Diginet and ADSL (All Telkom)
IBurst (which you already know about)
Sentech MyWireless.

The reality with Sentech is that MOST people find it acceptably fast (although no where near as fast as IBurst WHEN IBurst is working well.) Your max speed on MyWireless is about 400kbps on a 512 package. A 128 package will be in the region of 80 to 110kbps and 256 will be about 130 to 240kbps. Some users have complained about speeds dropping off when doing downloads although this is not something I have experienced.

Cheers

Guys, I'm signing up for uncapped, unshaped ADSL, if I can get ADSL. It'll be R1700 + R680 = R2380 per month. No more b u l l s h i t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well Im glad you can afford that, not all of us can, so guess we will have to put up with the cow dung.

Well if you don't download like a mofo , you can get away with R350 p/month for 500MB on 3G [card included]. Or there is R500 for 1GB of MTN's EDGE.

Still extremely expensive compared to iBurst i guess, but the coverage and support actually exists. So probably worth a mention.

And no, you don't necissarily have to sign a contract. Chances are you already have one [then you can go month to month on your regular cellphone contract].

You see this is the part that sersioulsy gets to me, You can have a full services uncapped in the uk for less than that in the entire Year lol
(I know i have had it)
And that is simply why i would never Support the ****s at telkom no matter what period.

Connection, you must have one of those MyWireless demo units for catching new clients, because if you download a file internationally on the "128" package, you get 4.5-7kB/s (after a minute or so - is it a couple of minutes now?) unless the file is downloaded frequently and therefore cached.

Unlike iBurst, Sentech's bandwidth management works pretty well in this regard.

Where do you live? Maybe you can share that connection with me. ;)

Seriously, that's a lot of cash to spend on internet access. I'd love to have uncapped & unshaped access but for much less than that. You must be loaded man. :D
