Cop faced more than 70 charges - a "racist conspiracy"

Minister of police Nathi Mthethwa has revealed that a policeman has notched up more than 70 criminal and disciplinary charges in a 30-year career.

Makhanda, from the Park Road police station in Bloemfontein, has faced charges ranging from misconduct to attempted murder and rape. Charges of attempted murder and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm are still pending.

Mthethwa revealed the policeman's history in parliament, in response to written questions by Free State DA leader Roy Jankielsohn, who said it appeared that the policeman regarded himself as "above the law".

But Makhanda said the charges were a "racist conspiracy" against an old man on the verge of retirement.

After agreeing to speak to the Sunday Times this week, he backtracked and referred inquiries to his lawyer, Mphafi Khang.

This is honestly soooo boring. I think they should make saying "racist" a word that is punishable with jail-time unless the person can actually prove it.
