Municipalities: The good, the bad, the ugly

The Empowerdex report said that Cape Town was the country's best metro, followed by Johannesburg. Tshwane was the worst.

On the provincial front, Gauteng and Western Cape offered the best service delivery, whereas Limpopo was the worst.

Empowerdex research manager Steven Hawes said the research "provides an ability to critically assess levels of service delivery".

The best for what, providing water and electricity to your house. Presumably you have that already, so it won't affect you. You and I most probably are looking for things like whether the council answers their phones, mows the verges, empties the bins and sweeps the streets. These were not part of the survey.

In reality, the DA achieves better "service delivery" buy cutting other services (as above). It's all spin again.

I propose that a 'Standerton' be pulled on Pretoria councilors!

Sackboy, to be honest, I'm more concerned with providing water and electricity to citizens, yes. Just because I've grown up with these my whole life, that doesn't make me any less concerned that my fellow CTians get them too.

You call this "spin", I think the rest of us call it getting their priorities straight!

Do you believe that "spin" was used here ?

14 October 2008: Helen Zille, Executive Mayor of Cape Town and leader of South Africa’s opposition Democratic Alliance, has been awarded the 2008 World Mayor Prize. Commentators supporting her nomination said that in a country devoid of present-day role models, this amazing lady was making a difference and giving people there hope: “Her only equals are Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela in Southern Africa.”

Nice link Frankie.

At first I thought their role model title was a bit sensationalist... but then I thought about it.. and I could not think of a better Saffie role model. So I concur.

I just laugh at Sackboy, how many violent protests have there been over lack of service delivery in ANC run provinces? And how many have there been in WP?
There's no need for spin, when the ANC keeps on making Helen Zille's victory in WP look like the second coming.

Not sure why the DA even try, they probably will never do enough to impress Sackboy:rolleyes:
All our taxes are going directly into the townships. Then more people come and the township keeps growing. All the while we lose services in areas surrounding us. The council is dysfunctional most of the time as well. If they want socialism, then let's vote or not vote for it.

So you want the ANC to run the city then?

Then all your taxes will go to buying fancy cars and having big parties, that you aren't invited to....

You live in a country with a massive amount of poor people, deal with the fact that things need to be sorted out, and that this will take time.

We did vote, and socialism won. (ANC)

I suppose the DA should stop helping those "unwanted rifraf" in the townships and focus on whatever suburb suckboy lives in. Who needs water and electricity as long as suckboy has a nicely painted, pothole-free road with a pretty trimmed lawn?

Sackboy dude, this country has issues. Can you think of a solution that would please both parties?

A big problem though remains. When services are installed 50% of the time, repairs need to be done because structures are vandalized.

Which streets aren't being sweeped.

I know some parts around Athlone stadium were quite shocking from a recent visit to the stadium but it looks like thats because everybody just litters like there are no rules.
Why throw something in your refuse bin when you can just throw it in the street.

There are also massive informal settlement locations which CANNOT be serviced because they are on illegal land not suitable for any form of settlement e.g. near or on a water body/vlei or on unstable ground.

If I'm not mistaken Cape Town also won cleanest metro?

True, there's no way to tell these bastards where to start shacking up.

Did I say that or did you make it up again ... sigh ...!

Look at what a democracy should be or look at the closest incarnation of it and then come back and tell us how it differs from ours.

I'm all for uplifting the poor, but it won't work if you just encourage migration for votes and then sweeten the deal with handouts.

I can always tell when people don't have an argument. When they start manipulating your username and trying to attack the person. Childishness in the extreme. See above for democracy.
