Hey,

Just wondering what your guys battery life is like?

Ive had the phone for a month and it only lasts a day on average.

When i first got it I drained the battery, charged it for 12 hours, drained it again and from then I charging has been as normal.

Anyone else having issues?

I know smartphones struggle with battery life but not even making it to bedtime is a bit useless....

There is already a thread that covered battery life on the 8520.

My own experience has been a max of 2 days with light usage.

I have developed the habit of charging it every night plus carrying the USB to mini-USB cord so that I can let it trickle charge from my Notebook or PC if needed.

The price you pay for push technology is poor battery life :erm:

what IS the best charging regime? I mean, is topping up, going to shorten the life? I thought these batteries had no 'memory'?
thanks

Seem that newer blackberry devices battery life is getting worse and worse with each new device. My 8310 lasted almost 2days with heavy use. Tour doesnt even last half a day on 4.7. Since i loaded os 5 it has gone up to almost one day.

I have upgraded my BB 8520 to OS5 and love it. Battery life is about 4 days with heavy email usage. Give that a shot and see what it does for you guys. I need to add that I keep the number of running apps to a minimum. I'm not running any IMs except the BB Messenger.

@SeanT Topping up will not shorten your battery life, that used to apply with the older generation batteries.

New Lithium batteries do not have the memory issue, which is why I have no fear of plugging my BB into my Notebook USB if it is low in charge.

@odegos All the links for the 8520 5.0 OS points to megaupload sites and the links are either broken or not available to download, need to be Premium user.

Where did you get your version from?

Just tried it now at it is working without issues ! Have you used rapidshare before ? just give the timer time to run out and it will give you a link to down load.

You are not a Premium User and have to wait. Please notice that only Premium Users will get full download speed.

This is just to say that you wont have full speed to download.

Was it a major mission to upgrade the OS?

Would probably not have bothered to upgrade if it was not for you, so thanks again, .238 seems awesome at this stage, have not really explored it fully yet :D

Was it a major mission to upgrade the OS?

Actually no, more of a mission to actually get the file for the 8520 OS :o

When I got it I just used the BDM software to run a full backup first.

Deleted the vendor.xml file and installed the downloaded file, rebooted my PC.

Some say do/dont remove your MMC, I did.

Plugged 8520 into my PC and ran the loader.exe from the directory, did not open BDM.

That ran its course, when it was done, I shutdown the 8520 and pulled the battery, put my MMC back in and replaced battery.

Came up again with all my apps still intact.

Did the host routing table re-registration, not necessary but I did it anyway and voila, all done, now running 5.0.0.238 and will still have to see what bugs if any are still around.

Predictive text is awesome, never make a typo again :D

I charged my battery completely before I did the upgrade and left my phone on since, will report back on how long with usage it lasts for.

Any further to you battery life with the new OS?

With heavy use it went for 24 hrs with a single bar left, not many people would use their phone as much as I would so it would be fair to say two days for average use?

Dont use Facebook, sorry, cannot comment.

I have not found anything to red flag and even on Crackberry, no one coming back with issues yet.

Besides, the full official 5.0 OS release is imminent anyway, love that word :D

I downgraded back to OS 4.6 and to my disappointment my battery is draining very quickly.

Hi guys,

I got my blackberry 8520 on sunday( 5 days ago). I charged the battery while the phone was off for a couple of hours while sleeping.. and the next day the battery only lasted til the night time..

Should i take it back? or what else could be causing the problem?

How often have you charged it and for how long has it lasted each time? Also is wifi, Bluetooth active?
