New Intel® Core™ i7 vs. Intel® Core ™ 2 Extreme?

So Intel® has released a new family of processors - the Intel® Core™ i7 processors!

For laptops, which is better or the fastest :-

the Intel® Core™ i7-820QM Processor (1.73GHz, 8MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)

OR

the Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme QX9300 processor (2.53GHz, 12MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)

Any thoughts?:p

The HP Pavilion HDX18t has been replaced by the HP Pavilion dv8t. They can be customised to the exact same specs except for the processor and graphics card.

HP HDX18t
- Intel® Core™ i7-820QM Processor (1.73GHz, 8MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
- 1GB Nvidia GT 230M

HP dv8t
- Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme QX9300 processor (2.53GHz, 12MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
- 1GB Nvidia GT 130M

Windows7 seven use special Power optimizing code that switch off unused transistors not required for processing, thus saving battery power, much more power friendly than Vista or any other OS!
 
Well, if it's a choice between those two CPUs only, the i7 wins hands down.

Your choice, personally I would go I7, that's the future unless the C2 are much, much cheaper to budge my mind under pressure.
 
Depends what your needs are If you need power then the i7
if you don't need that much power and need battery life then the Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme QX9300 will do

Unfortunately I do not see that the way is to buy just what you need, I buy more than what I need then the extra need will develop and come later. That way it's future proof and the need for another upgrade soon is extended further in the future. Resale value is also a point to consider.

Price and affordability of course comes first, then the bragging rights, then the ego, then the need!

i7 would actually give better or longer battery life. P-states are much improved with i7 over core 2 and Win7 along with i7 make for some really great power savign techniques. Also the lower operatign speed would result in less heat. i7 has no NB, but core 2 does so thats another chip drawing power and giving off heat. i7 has no SB, but Core 2 does.

In every way the i7 woudl be a smarter buy
 
OK, So I need to get a laptop now, and while the Hp Envy is coming, and the Alien is coming, Acer have 2 models in stock, one for R20k and the other for R25k both with i7 M720 processors, BUT they come with things I dont think I will ever need like a Blu-Ray Writer etc. Also, this is at Incredible Connection, which usually means I can get it for cheaper elsewhere ..
Anyone have any other idea's. I have looked on the Dell, HP and other Websites and not found anything of any interest

So you say you can get those 2 Acer models at a cheaper price? Where? I can't find any other store that sells those models.

Why don't you check out :- www.pricecheck.co.za and www.jump.co.za.
 
MicS, I didn't say I can, its just that usually if you go to Incredible usually you can get stuff cheaper elsewhere (I usually use it as a benchmark of what the maximum is that i should be paying and work it down from there ... having said that it usually boils down to things like printers, USB Drives, Software etc. I have never looked at these guys for a laptop as I always thought they were expensive !
