SKYNEWS 'Monster Shark' Chomps Into Great White in Australia

Image & shark is authentic - as I do not always believe everything
that is sent to me

4.3m was caught in the bather protection nets off Durban and
the shark was shipped to Mossel Bay to be dissected, dissection
will be recorded by British TV crew

Remember fishing in the harbour some nights before they built uShaka and the whole water front thing. Was the last pier before the breakwater.

Saw a gliding shadow beneath our feet. Was easily longer and wider than a man, although water does amplify size. Still was quite big.
 
They really need to devise some kind of shark nets that are more friendly to marine life. The number of sea cratures that are killed in these nets is scary.

yeah, +1000

They end up catching more dolphins, turtles, seals etc. than sharks. I don't personally believe in these nets in any case.

Me neither. The collateral damage is way too high. Sahrk attacks worldwide are not a very common occurance, besides.
 
The thing with shark nets is that they have started to attract marine life, and, of course, this means that the predators will come, and in their excitement, they may be caught in the nets.

That picture in the zigzag.co.za article is a classic example of moronic photographers. When photographing something that has significance based on size, you must have something of known size in the same photo so that a visual comparison can be made.

Luckily the other 2 photo's save the day, that thing is huuuuuge! :eek:
 
There have been killer whale sightings in OZ, especially Southern Australia.

Only few and far in between.

One of the largest great white sharks caught off the KZN coast has become the star of an international wildlife documentary series, Inside Nature's Giants.

The 4.3m adolescent female was found dead in shark nets off Zinkwazi Beach at the end of August, and, at the request of a UK film company, Windfall Films, was filmed by the crew as shark experts dissected the creature in Mossel Bay on Friday last week.

Geremy Cliff, head of research at the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board, said: "The shark was found still alive, albeit weak, by a KZN Sharks Board boat crew shortly after first light on 31 August............
