Does it allow one to insert a 3G SIM card into the laptop?

Yes - it 3G/hsdpa MiniPCi card for certain HP models -HP EliteBook 2530p Notebook PC
HP EliteBook 2730p Notebook PC
HP EliteBook 6930p Notebook PC
HP EliteBook 8530p Notebook PC
HP EliteBook 8530w Mobile Workstation

The sim card slots into this card. I sold one to a client for about R1500 a few weeks ago.
