Posted this in another thread, but thought other WoW players would be interested to see this:

Erm, I'm confused. All this Saix vs. IS talk and no1 mentions Cybersmart. If you're an online gamer, check these trace routes to my WoW server in Frankfurt:

*Note* the general failure at the end of the Saix trace route is just because I terminated the internet connection once it reached the ip before time out. You can see it's the same fm-b10-link.telia.net [80.91.247.77] as on the others. If you've never pinged a wow server and are curious about the time-outs, it's because the server is firewalled and so the trace route times out one hop before it reaches it.

Now what I'm curious about is what is going on at hop 6 on the SAIX trace. This is in Gauteng. As for the IS trace, it's clearly the worst, because it's going to Washington DC, then New York, then to Europe. The Cybersmart trace is amazing though. Out of the country in 2 hops? Yes please?

Traces were done on a 512kbs line in Cape Town.

WA is by far the best.

But lately at R 29 a GB Afrihost is not too bad :p

Web Africa is by far superior to all ADSL providers for WoW.

What were the actual latencies ingame with the Cybersmart account? And is it Shaped or Unshaped?

The cybersmart account is giving me 450ms max at peak times (25 man raiding, etc.) and I've seen latency as low as 280ms with it. My server is quite high pop as well, so that may add to it a little, but it's leaps and bounds better for raiding or pvp than any other ISP's similar priced accounts (unless afrihost is as good as reported, which I'm still going to try). It is unshaped - all cybersmart accounts are unshaped at no extra cost. Jeez maybe i should get a cut of their advertising budget xD.

Still, any1 know what is going on with my saix trace route? Can you replicate huge jumps of latency inside SA? I'm not overly concerned, just curious :p

As I type, 358ms with Afrihost. I've managed to run three wow accounts on three machines on a 512k line with more or less 300 - 500ms no each pc.

I do get the occasional DC / lag spike.

I want to open up this thread again. Can people please look @ new pings & tracerts. Say around 20:00 @ night

For about a week now my Afrihost acct has gone up about with about 100ms.

If I make use of Afrhost+lowerping I get anything from 360-400ms where it used to be 270ms.

Afrihost during the day is around 370ms, goes to 300-sub at night.

Cybersmart resells IS/SAIX don't they?

To the OP:
I posted in another thread a week or so ago about how great my latency is on Cybersmart actually.

Thread: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=198050&page=2

I'll paste again some links:

10man no activity = 222ms: http://www.restricted.co.za/upload/WoWScrnShot_102509_115216.jpg

VoA 25man - very smooth pug run = 276ms: http://www.restricted.co.za/upload/WoWScrnShot_102609_200238.jpg

AQ40 with about 6-7 ppl as we were bored, huge aoe here = 354ms (but i think my house mates were browsing): http://www.restricted.co.za/upload/WoWScrnShot_102609_225019.jpg

Onyxia:
Whelps in 10man = 281ms : http://www.restricted.co.za/upload/WoWScrnShot_103109_152034.jpg
Whelps in 25man = 323ms : http://www.restricted.co.za/upload/WoWScrnShot_102709_194826.jpg

And yes I still have the same great experience on this CS account. I know for a fact Cybersmart has no shaping in place, I have actually heard this straight from their Network Engineer Shaun.

The WA trial accounts work good too, but there is shaping on them and who knows what the congestion on those links will be once the network goes live, its still uncertain how it will end up. However once live I will look again at those accounts.

Afrihost here, hover around 270ms - 300ms. Works like a charm.

Without any proxies? I'll give it a shot again 2night

I just heard lowerping have been redoing some servers and having some issues.

Afrihost also told me the following:

"Just so that you know we use no throttling at all or any restriction what so ever on our accounts."

Done all these tests just now around 7pm, can't do it later really will forget.

OK WTF is wrong with Cybersmart thou?

Why do you pay different prices for a 3GB account depending on the line speed you have???
You still only get 3GB of data anyway. With 4mb u will just burn it quicker so u need more.
It makes 0 sense @ all

R225 for 3GB is bloody expensive
