Out with the old, In with the new?

While I was in the US (2006-2008), I bought myself a Xbox 360 Pro console;

NTSC
20GB HDD
Wireless Connector
2 Controls
Wireless Guitar
+20 Games


I decided to bring my Xbox 360 back with me to SA but knew that I would have to get an AC Power Adapter and that when/ if I wanted to buy new games (PAL), they'd have a good chance of not working with my console.

Fortunately everything worked fine, AC Power Adapter was easy to find and worked well, most of the more popular games like Guitar Hero: World Tour & Gears of War 2 worked on the NTSC platform. So far so good!

Then after about a year came the dreaded RROD, my model was apparently a 2006 model which was know to fail because of the RROD and was covered by the warranty, however I couldn't find my slip/ proof of purchase so I was pretty stuffed for trying to arrange a swap out.

So now I am contemplating buying the Elite version of the Xbox 360, but I have some questions and concerns that I was hoping the community could assist me with.


** Are there people out there who want to buy the RROD/ NTSC/ 20GB console? If so what would it sell for?

** Should I save my accessories like the wireless connector, the 20GB HDD, the guitar and 2 controls and some money by buying the arcade version of the Xbox 360? That way its much cheaper, and I already have the accessories I require? But will they work!?

** If I do decide to buy the Elite and use my accessories then it would look pretty crap with white controls etc, just being fussy!

** Should I tap into the geek within and order the RROD repair kit for R350 and save money buying a new one, but bearing in mind that if I do that I still have to use the AC Power Adapter and make sure that any games I buy will work with the NTSC version.

** Or on the flip-side of the above buy the Arcade or Elite and have some of the +20 games I've already bought not work on the PAL version.


So I am really not sure which option is best, hope that the console fundi's can help me out here.

If you buy any new console here, big chance that most of the games you own will not work. You need to see if the games are region locked or not? Either get the RROD repair kit (but that doesn't solve the problem, it just delays the inevitable again) or you import a NTSC version (But then you won't be able to play new games here). Its a tough decision to make.

just get a ps3

Just sell your current xbox with 1 controller and keep everything else... then go buy an Arcade.. it will all work together

I think I would probably be better off with a new console :/
Does it make sense to buy the Arcade and use what is left/ working off of my current console, or should I spend the extra R1000 and get the Elite and just disregard my old console altogether?

Also, where would be the best place to buy the console from, the only places I am familiar with are Incredible Corruption and Look & Listen, do they provide the best deals?
