Everything works fine until I shut down. Next time I start up my windows 7 can't find any network connections. My other PC on the network (running XP) connects find. Apparently there's a problem with the driver for my router but sadly the disc they gave me with this router doesn't work at all.

So I have to keep doing system restores and it seems to work fine after that. But I don't even install new software in between these crashes so I'm not sure what's going on.

Can anyone recommend a better modem that can get the job done? A non-telkom one perhaps, I don't know what requirements there are for a router....will they all work if I just connect it to my line and pc or is there a lengthy setup for each device? I'm sick of this router - I have to use my iPhone to go to 10.0.0.2 to change my connections because trying to access the router from a computer does not work.

The Mega 100WR, 105WR and other variants I won't touch with a stick, but you'll get lots of users here that doesn't have any problems with them. You'll get lots of responses as well with regards to new routers, myself being a Billion router fan, haven't had any problems with mine the past 1.5 years. The D-Link, Netgear routers are also excellent, but just make sure you get a router that meets your needs, no need in spending lots of cash on one if you don't require any fancy features :)

Are you using USB or LAN? For LAN connections the router doesn't need drivers on the PC.

It's LAN.. I don't think there is a driver problem really because none of my computers have the driver for this modem because the CD they gave me is actually *broken*. Yes, they sell you a CD that does not work at all, phone into Telkom and they tell you to throw it away :\

I think it's just these routers aren't very good and aren't going to work with W7 in the long run.....can you guys link me a decent router on take2.co.za perhaps or direct me to a store that sells some decent ones?

something like that okay? I really have no clue about routers.

if you're running it over Ethernet, then this problem can't possibly be caused by the Mega 105WR - its impossible

There's nothing wrong with the router, and if your PC's LAN ip is 10.0.0.x/255.255.255.0 and you don't have any proxy settings in your browser, you should have no problem accessing http://10.0.0.2/
Please describe your setup and problem further. By the sounds of things, your router is in half-bridge (or bridged) mode, correct? So you've set up a PPPoE/broadband connection on each of your PC's, rather than using the modem as a gateway? The problem is that after a reboot, your PPPoE dial-up connection in Windows 7 disappears, right?

All I've done, is plugged in one end of the LAN cable into each of my machines, and the other ends into the router. They automatically connect. When I want to change the telkom account i'm using, I got to 10.0.0.2...setup and just change the username and password and both pcs automatically connect. PPPoE but don't know if it's bridged (what does that even mean?).

After I reboot with W7 or after it goes to sleep, it just can't find any connections. Replugging cables does not do anything.

Just a quick question, did you purchase Windows 7 at launch or did it come installed with a new machine?

If the latter then it should work fine however if you loaded from scratch perhaps the drivers it came with are not working correctly.

Give us more information on your motherboard.

Perhaps another user is using the same one with the same modem/router :)

Ok so you simply have your Mega 105WR dialing up for you. Sounds like your Windows 7 machine isn't properly obtaining its IP address from the router's DHCP server...

Are you connecting Wirelessly?

If not, try the following:

Open 'Network and Sharing Center', click 'Change Adapter Settings' in the left pane, and then right click your 'Local Area Connection'. Then select 'Properties'.
Under the 'Networking' tab, click 'Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)', then click 'Properties', and under the 'General' tab, choose to specify the following manually:
IP Address: 10.0.0.3
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.0.0.2
Preferred DNS Server: 10.0.0.2
Then restart your machine...
Let me know if that works at all
