Transfer of ADSL line to telkom and fee's involved

I am in the process of transferring my line from Axxess to web africa. But to do that, i first need to transfer the line to Telkom and then to Web Africa.

After waiting more than a month, telkom has now transferred the line back to them, but received a bill with a "ADSL line installation" of R490 on it.

I queried it by calling telkom and they said it was an error and it will be reversed. Today telkom clearwater called me and said I have to pay the R490 even though it is a line transfer.

Do any of you know if this is true/correct.

I don't think it is but want the forum's views on this before I take it further.

Not sure about the transfers at all..
But with a normal Telkom ADSL install AFAIK unless a techie comes out to your house (i.e. self install) there is no installation charge.

Maybe someone else knows a bit more.
 
well did you install your line with telkom long ago? if you paid R490 then or self install you should get the receipt and show them cause by rights you shouldnt pay twice or even for the transfer

Why not just keep the line with Telkom. Every time you switch the line to another isp you will have to deal with this crap.

The company is taking over the payment of my line. But it needs to be with Web africa

I would be very surprised if it is correct.

As Telkom is not providing you with any service they can not be entitled to charge. Assuming of course that it is a Telkom requirement that the line must first come back to them before being transferred to WA. It frequently happens that the Telkom support staff apply what they think the policy is without fully understanding the transaction - if you fight this I am convinced it will be reversed.
 
hmm, im moving and had to cancel my current line, lady said if i take closer package R145 a month i get line install free and then i can get dsl free on top of that at my new place

Now that sounds to good to be true.

I have learned the hard way. If it sounds to good to be true, it is!

Yes

Telephone line on closer package = No Installation fee for voice line.
Choose 'self install' for ADSL = No Installation fee for ADSL.
 
I also did it this way, but remember you first need to get the phone line installed. Once that is done, you request the adsl line with self install. If possible, go in to a telkom shop, they tend to be more willing to assist, than the call centre staff.
