What was Ivy carrying on about last year on November 1?
Still buggerall digital tv in Cape Town let me tell you.

Wasn't there some kind of condition that at least the major cities would have digital TV by the start of 2010 soccor WC?

Maybe Cape Town is not counted as a major city in SA considering there is not even a test signal here yet :rolleyes:

Current broadcasting plans will leave roughly seven million South Africans without high-definition (HD) TV, until long after 2012.
With neither etv, nor the SABC keen to offer HD channels on the current structures, it is unlikely those without access to DSTV will experience high-definition until long after the digital migration process is completed in 2012.

The SABC says it will also not broadcast HD, since the current iteration of regulations does not cater for the service. Many had hoped the SABC would provide an HD service for the coming 2010 Fifa Soccer World Cup.

Which they could easily have done had they got their act together and had digital TV in at least the 3 largest cities in SA by 2010.

Those new decoders (full of interaction with sars and wotnot) were due for consumer release 6 months ago already!

Phmmph and they still think they going to switch off the analog siginal in 2011 - please. We'll have good old anolog for another 30 years at this rate - trust me!

For some reason I was bull****ted by Ivy into believing we would have digital tv (I thought it was a FIFA requirement actually) for 2010 and naively believed I would see the soccer in HD.

Guess I’ll have to get my mate to send on dvd like all the SyFy channel stuff.

My bad. Stupid me.

Digital TV and HD are not the same thing which Garyvdh has already stated.

Multichoice will broadcast the Fifa World Cup in HD on an HD PVR DSTV decoder, and SABC will broadcast via DTT (which they are already doing in the major cities).

So there you have it - A choice of Digital TV or HD.. so what's the problem?

Worldwide shutdown of analogue is 2015.

There are delays yes but we'll jump straight to future proof mpeg4.Countries already having dtt will have to change later again since they're currently using mpeg2.

Why is it needed to repeat some thing over and over?
