prices are crazy this morning

wtf is going on with pricing this morning from suppliers

I called Axiz down here in cape town this morning 4 memory got quoted R 429 for a Kingstin 2gb ddr2 800 & R499 for DDR3 1066Mhz
Intel C2Q R 2399 and quotations only valid for 1 day , Rectron’s even worse , bough some Windows 7 home edition from them last week , today R 60 more expensive-wtf

I know the rand is weakening but looks like pricing is going through the roof.
Has any else experienced da same thing 2day or is it just me or should I wait?
 
Saw the same this morning. Got quoted almost R400 for DDR2 800 as well, some generic make.

It's actually pretty annoying. Same RAM was less than R300 a few months back.

It's the pre-christmas price-hike, so that they can pretend to have real specials in December.

Same thing happened last year, though it was in the middle of October then.

by R0.40... now really enough to warrent a FULL R100 increase!

And wait, so you going to say that because the Rand weakened, the price increases, almost immediately. However, when the rand suddenly gains serious value, and the economy is strong, do you ever see the prices come down? :rolleyes:

I'm sorry, they can't possibly use that excuse :)
 
I heard they blaming it on some earthquake in china that destroyed a RAM factory, sounds like bull to me

I have mentioned in a previous thread

that prices are to increase significantly over this period called High Season , with the weaker Rand as Rpm mentioned is also a contributing factor as well as high freight cost to get stock into SA.

I just got and email now from Dram exchange which is an indicator we use when we import memory , -it will make interesting reading and maybe make you hair stand , http://dramexchange.com/WeeklyResearch/Post/2/2193.html

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but prices are to go up even further , even with the higher now prices now it still cheaper to buy now then wait as we going to see this trend until end of January or early February 2010 when you will start to see a decline in pricing.

As you all know, memory price have increased almost 100% compare with 2 months ago - and even till today price still going up (on both memory and flash)



There are some other components get effected shortly



Mainly VGA - as you know there are 512MB/1GB/2GB on memory that means about R50/100/200 price on all VGA card in general

Anything that got memory within will be affected as common sense + exchnage rate went bad for the last couple days.



So get stocked up on VGA before the price start to increase.
 
Answer is simple folks... don't buy anything until Feb. :)

Esquire makes valid points, but I'm annoyed to see how quickly old stock jumps up in price as well. Prices are indicated to go up, so all of a sudden stock already bought and sitting on a shelf suddenly jumps up in price too? This is one situation where gravity is inverted... things go up easier than they come down.

Unfortunately, it's a profit making market. Even those of us who are resellers are kinda sorta into it for profit so there's nothing one can do right now.

Not sure about that hey. Im pretty sure most of them have an account of some sort, so even though they have the stock - they only pay for it 30/60 days later!
 
Lol, quite funny that people moan about old stock being new prices.

Do you honestly think that importers bring in enough to last 2 months or more? Most places are bringing in containers on a weekly basis.

When imports are done prices are normally frozen at the agreed purchase price anyway.
 
In terms of Ram, my theory is they are starting to push up DDR2 pricing, to make DDR3 prices seem reasonable (Even though they weren't that much more) ... anyone remember DDR1 prices?
 
you want bull**** club 3d 5870 R1k increase landmarkpc.co.za still have both prices advertised!!!!
 
rand below 7.60, all esle being equal i wonder what prices will do
