Another sub-R 50 per GB ADSL service launched

just from a marketing perspective, would it not have been better to launch the product after Afrihost ended their special? I cannot possibly imagine any rational consumer opting for R44 per gig while they can get R29 per gig...

i welcome the pricing, but if i was a shareholder of Gridhost I wouldn b happy with the timing... i personally wouldv given the product a lot more attention if the Afrihost special ended making gridhost the cheapest player in the market ;)

No one knows (well, maybe a few people...) when the Afrihost special is going to end. Also, there's the SAIX thing.

Anyway, I think it's awesome that the market is finally changing!!

I doubt that they will be able to best the sheer might of Afrishost's offerings.

Since this is Saix bandwidth, will there be free local?

I like that they have bandwidth rollover.
 
Can't seem to find on their site whether prepaid bandwidth rolls over and for how long.
Pity their call centre number is 087 :(

They've been offering over 4.5 gigs for R 239 for years and years. Only when they got rid of their soft capping, did these new players have any incentive to compete. Until then they could just say "look, we're offering 5 gigs for the price of Telkom's 3 gigs". Good riddance soft capping.

Given the choice, I'll take Telkom at R239, and get my 30 gigs of local free*. Sorry the rest, you just aren't giving me a compelling reason to change.

30 GB of local is useless to the vast majority of users. Unless you are splitting local and international traffic on your router - there's no point for most users.

As a business user, I need both local and international access. As a home user, pirate, and gamer, I also need both local and international.

Punting 30GB of local only data as a "feature" or "special" on a package is misleading.
 
Great price. Only problem is well normal telkom accounts totally sux.

International pings on them are anything from 700-900ms where guys like Afrihost's ping is about half of that.

What we need is cheap unshaped telkom accounts for a price like that. That is the only way I will every use telkom (as telkom unshaped is no1 when it comes to latency)
