Rumors of an official locally hosted WoW server being in the pipeline have recently surfaced, and upon further investigation we have discovered that iGame in partnership with Megarom are currently in talks with Blizzard. iGame, iBurst's gaming department, is offering to host the server using their own staff, equipment and resources. All they need is permission from Blizzard.

The discussions with Blizzard however have not been as smooth as iGame would like. The problem is that Blizzard has identified and red flagged South Africa as a piracy hotspot because of the strong illegal WoW server presence.

old,

also name a running illegal local server.

That is the biggest crock of shyt I have ever heard.

China has their own server, and the have 100's of pirated servers and the list goes on and on. They are talking shyt....

Blizzard won't even let South Africans participate in the Recruit-A-Friend deal.
They probably used the same excuse for that one.

Don't we have a "strong illegal WoW server presence" BECAUSE we don't have an officially hosted local WoW server? x_x

But there is no MASSIVE emu server revolution in SA. We prob have 3 or 4 at most with around 5 players each :D

They talking k@k.

actually its because pyramid schemes are illegal here

if i believe correctly, when mygaming created that news post they were just starting out.

So i think it was just a way to farm some hits and get some publicity as we have heard nothing since from the people involved.

where do mygaming find there writers and where do there writers find there sources ? There thumbs ?

Creating an official server for Africa would remove private servers

Fail Blizzard is fail :(

Says who? Do you honestly think they only play on emu servers because of the lag? They play on those servers because they are free, and even if a server came here they would do the same thing.

I will take the bait...

Emu servers are by far a waste of bandwidth. Now if there is a local server even the Emu guys will pay for the right to play on the Legit realms. I'm not saying all of them because they like to play on buggy servers, playing hide and seek and no BG's. But I'll bet you a good couple of hundreds some will sign up to legit ;)

haha, im not trying to troll dude.. i promise. There is no promise that the Emu guys will come across if they have to pay. And if, like you say a couple of hundred come across i really dont think its worth it.

Anyways.. this argument has been done and dusted. :)

Oh yes and then igames or whatever close their doors and all you toons go for a ball of ****. Or knowing SA they would put conditions to their servers like you have to be a iburst customer. I would only move my toon if Blizz themselves made a official server here. And even then how many ppl would they get 1,000 maybe 2,000 players. The average medium populated server has 20,000 players. My server alone has 20,000 Horde and around 10,000 alliance characters.

These days journalists do not just report facts, they put their opinions in their articles as well.

There arent just private servers in China, but in pretty much all the countries in Europe as well as in the USA.
