DSTV aerial cable to hdmi/dvi/vga converter

Hey,

My friend just splashed out on a 24" samsung lcd screen and would like to plug her DSTV aerial into it. What converter could she get that would take the DSTV aerial as an input and output to either hdmi, dvi, or vga for use with the screen?

I assume what she wants to do is upscaling from the SD decoder....

The one thing that you can get to do this is a DVD writer, a lot of them have this function.
 
Is the LCD a TV? does it not have RCA connections? which decoder does she have?
 
I'm assuming she has a decoder ?

The dvd writer will have an HDMI output and should have either RCA or aerial input. It will upscale the dstv signal.
 
i think he means, its not a TV, its a normal 24" inch. probably that samsung i have with an hdmi and dvi input ONLY. no RCA, RGB.

And i think she doesnt have an HD PVR

Nerfherder in this case, is the wisest. Get a DVD Writer/Bluray anything really that will take RCA inputs and give you a mixed HDMI output. (some home theatre amps could prolly mix this too)

Last resort, Zakspeed make a RCA->VGA and if im not mistaken RCA-> DVI output. I've not yet seen a direct RCA->HDMI cable since its analogue vs digital but I'm sure it exists.

Failing that, check out the TV boxes you get from Rectron/Pinnacle and company i've seen some with DVI/HDMI outputs and RCA inputs.

PS-EDIT-Ive googled rca-hdmi converters, they look expensive, and dodgy and are all in the US or China. I think what might be best, although the most expensive, is get an HDPVR from DSTV. Then its one cable and its all sorted HDMI->HDMI from the PVR to the Samsung.

thanks for all the responses. She has a normal lcd computer monitor that has no TV receiver built in. I'm still a bit perplexed as to how a dvd writer can take rca or hdmi inputs. I've bought a few dvd writers in my time and they've only ever taken ATA/SATA inputs. Am I missing something?

She has a DSTV decoder and I think she might have PVR too, so perhaps going hdmi to hdmi might be an option. The problem is that the hdmi cable might need to be pretty long :(

okay, a few points.

1. We mean an APPLIANCE DVD Writer, i think the proper term is DVD Recorder like VCR of old. They usually have a plethora of inputs and outputs.

2. PVR alone wont help, it needs to be an HDPVR.

Presumably the screen is attached to a computer, so instead of going the DVD Recorder route, I'd rather suggest she grabs a TV Capture card, as was mentioned earlier, and run the aerial into that. That will have the added benefit of letting her record the incoming video, a la PVR, using her pc.

You don't even know how to hotwire a SATA port into displaying video and audio trough HDMI/DVI?
